Description
Mysticism is one of the most enduring and fascinating aspects of religious life, and one of the most difficult to unpick. It has, over the centuries, inspired many of the leading figures in different faiths to seek a sense of union with God or with the spiritual forces in the universe, and is increasingly part of the spiritual mainstream. Designed for students grappling with this complicated area, this book enables readers to understand the nature of mysticism, and to examine in detail the traditional methods used by mystics in seeking an intimate understanding of the spiritual world. Including a detailed survey of mystical trends within all the main world religions, and case studies of the lives of important mystics, Mysticism: A Guide for the Perplexed also examines the nature of the mystical lifestyle, and the extent to which ordinary people can develop a sense of personal mysticism.

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐This is an excellent, clear introduction to mysticism in the main world religions. The author isn’t interested in denigrating mysticism, but in understanding and explanation.
⭐An interesting ( if very light ) look at various Mystical beliefs. Highlighting a few poignant or salient aspects of each. The subject doesn’t come across as either too secular or too scared for the author ( Mr.Paul Oliver ).So those that are sceptical, won’t feel ‘preached’ to and those looking for some entry level ‘union with the Absolute’ won’t feel frowned upon.N.B. Bought this from a third party seller for ‘three pounds, fifty-nine pence’.Yet they charge two-eighty ‘per-book’ for postage – no matter how many items you purchase from them – it’s another two-eighty on top.I wrote and asked them why, they said Amazon ‘make them’ add two-fifty onto every single item for postage?Unfortunately this is something that they can’t change? …Is there no end to the insanity that is Amazon?
