Description

This book focuses on the dynamics of clouds and of precipitating mesoscale meteorological systems. Clouds and precipitating mesoscale systems represent some of the most important and scientifically exciting weather systems in the world. These are the systems that produce torrential rains, severe winds including downburst and tornadoes, hail, thunder and lightning, and major snow storms. Forecasting such storms represents a major challenge since they are too small to be adequately resolved by conventional observing networks and numerical prediction models.

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐First, this book is not an introduction to weather for the general public. I would recommend to first buy an introductory book on weather before starting reading this book made of 900 pages. The physics of cumulonimbus is developped in length and this book discredites some urban legends about thunderstorms. A glider pilot that understands well the physics of these phenomena will identify early enough the insidious symptoms of dangers to come. This book is very well written and with a minimal background in Mathematics and Physics, it is easy to read. It has plenty of figures that illustrate the theories. Also, phenomena that are of interest to glider pilots like gravity waves generated by cumulonimbus are discussed. Even inside the glider community, these phenomena are very little known. I would strongly recommend this book to advanced glider pilots who already have an experience in cross-country soaring and have the necessary scientific background. By reading this book a lot of mysterious phenomena encountered during flight can be explained.

⭐This text is excellent for Geographers, Climatologist, and Meteorologist. The contents of chapter is synchronizes with the advancement of your depth of knowledge and curiosity. Hence i would like to recommended this book for your advancement of interest.

⭐Excellent ouvrage pour la connaissance scientifique des nuages
