User’s Reviews

Editorial Reviews: Review ‘A vast and comprehensive gathering of expert accounts, both from within Korea and from outside, of Korean literary history from the earliest examples up to recent developments in fiction and poetry, in North as well as South Korea. This will be the standard for many years to come. Peter Lee deserves our thanks and has earned our admiration once again.’ David R. Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐Very dense so it’s a bit hard to use as a resource. Because he tried to make it so comprehensive, information on individual writers can be sparse and I was left with a lot of questions about literature that weren’t answered. I like having this book because I can use it as a guide, but it would have been better as 3 vols with more contextualization regarding history and society.

⭐An excellent and thorough introduction to an important and little known literature. The Korean cinema is increasingly popular and should encourage more to read the literature in translation. The language itself is easier to learn that other East asian languages, as it has an alphabet that is simple to learn. Richard Kildare
