Description
The Applied and Numerical Harmonic Analysis (ANHA) book series aims to provide the engineering, mathematical, and scientific communities with significant developments in harmonic analysis, ranging from abstract har monic analysis to basic applications. The title of the series reflects the im portance of applications and numerical implementation, but richness and relevance of applications and implementation depend fundamentally on the structure and depth of theoretical underpinnings. Thus, from our point of view, the interleaving of theory and applications and their creative symbi otic evolution is axiomatic. Harmonic analysis is a wellspring of ideas and applicability that has flour ished, developed, and deepened over time within many disciplines and by means of creative cross-fertilization with diverse areas. The intricate and fundamental relationship between harmonic analysis and fields such as sig nal processing, partial differential equations (PDEs), and image processing is reflected in our state of the art ANHA series. Our vision of modern harmonic analysis includes mathematical areas such as wavelet theory, Banach algebras, classical Fourier analysis, time frequency analysis, and fractal geometry, as well as the diverse topics that impinge on them.
User’s Reviews
Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐This book contains a series of chapters which representa comprehensive analysis of some of the most importanttopics in Gabor analysis as well as important new resultsin these areas. The chapter on “uncertainty principles”finally brings the full scope of this important topic tolight – far beyond the “classical uncertainty principle”.One of the deepest questions in Gabor analysis is theclassification of the g,a,b so that (g,a,b) yields a Gaborframe. Chapter 3 of this book gives a comprehensivestudy of the case where g is the characteristic functionof an interval, showing that even this case is quite complicatedand not completely resolved yet. Operator Algebras areplaying an ever more important role in Gabor frame theoryand Chapter 6 gives one a glimpse into these powerfultechniques – especially in analyzing “subspace Gabor frames”.For applications, one needs to invert the frame operator. These is a whole section in the book on the most up todate results on inverting the Gabor frame operator. One can also find other important gems in the book such as animportant introduction to pseudodifferential operators andapplications of Weyl-Heisenberg sets of stochastic encoding. This is just a portion of the important topics in the book. The chapters are very well written by leading experts in thefield, which allows one to “get into” a topic even with littleprevious knowledge. Therefore, it is invaluable for peoplewho want to enter one of these areas of Gabor analysis forthe first time. Overall, this book is a significant contributionto Gabor analysis and should sit on the desk of anyone workingin this area.
