This timely collection of expository papers highlights progress and new directions in Hopf algebras. Arising from the MSRI workshop on Hopf Algebras in October 1999, some papers consider Hopf versions of classical topics, such as the Brauer group, while others are closer to recent work in quantum groups. In particular, there are articles on recent progress in classifying finite-dimensional Hopf algebras, both in the semisimple case and in the pointed case. The volume also includes an updated version of Mitsuhiro Takeuchi’s article “A short course on quantum matrices”, now a standard reference in spite of its relative lack of availability.

⭐Bookmark was HUGE…disappointing.

⭐If you already have had a graduate level course in Hopf algebra,you might have a chance, but one of these articles on groupoids had only one recognizable matrix representation.Some of the language in one article is pure homological algebra abstract right and left modules.Stick a fork in me, I’m done.This is real cooked algebra for the hard boiled.I think is is my duty to warn the innocent awaybefore they buy this. If your research director thinks you should read it before doing your thesis…get a new research director.I’ve used Hopf algebra to do minimal minimal surfacesand quantum algebras are my bread and butter,but this stuff is torture out of Dante’s Inferno.You want something that will make things clearer not put you in a fog.
