⭐I loved this broad exploration of ideas around happiness. It feeds curiosity with a moderate dose of scepticism and prompts you to make your own judgement through some exercises. The author’s language is simple, clear, unpretentious, and even with some good humour. Easy read, yet makes you think. While author’s presentation of Epicurean and Stoic philosophies did not fully capture their approach to happiness in my opinion, it was good enough for the breadth-first analysis presented in this book. The book is more about a spectrum of ideas rather than their precise history or “proof” analysis. I found the last sections a bit weak. The author tried to cut happiness “down to size” which is probably a useful exercise, but he did not really present any argument on the importance of other things which all could be conceived as derivatives. The author referenced hedonistic paradox in a number of places as a plausible phenomenon, but did not articulate the argument or evidence for it. In any case, I very much enjoyed this book.
⭐This is one of the most practical and analytical books in self-improvement and personal psychology. I really like the organization of this book as well as the content.What many self-improvement books lack is the concreteness and generality of approaches such that they can be systematically applied in general situations for general readers. Happiness is very subjective and hard to define. Because of this, it is very hard to achieve happiness — how can we achieve something that we cannot even define? Happiness also means differently to different people, so it is very hard to provide a single set of formula that will work for everyone. This book nails it in this aspect by analyzing the ingredients of happiness in a systematic and analytical manner which allows each reader to apply the tools according to their own value and measure. Unlike many personal development books, this book defines happiness in a general and concrete measure which makes the concept of happiness less fuzzy and hence allows the readers to achieve it in a more systematic, organized way.
⭐I really enjoyed reading this book and I found it full of insightful notions about happiness. The book is very well researched and written by a skilled author who knows how to write clearly ans concisely.
⭐This book doesn’t tell you how to be happy it just gives the different philosophies and philosophers’ view and let you decide. There is no real way to measure happiness. It’s subjective to the individual.
⭐I like that it asks you questions about yourself and tells you about happiness.I recommend this for you and your friends.
⭐Honestly, I don’t know why there is still no review. It is one of the most hillarious yet profound little books. I love every bit of it both for an easy way the writer makes fun of philosophers and also for deep and important questions he leaves you with.
⭐Probably the most succinct treatment of the subject I’ve come across. Beautifully written with small exercises and think about sections. I would highly recommend this book.
⭐Really good read with some handy tips. Gave me another perspective on keeping positive, which leads to happiness. Book in good condition, arrived promptly, would recommend seller and use again.
⭐Will Buckingham’s practical happiness guide is full of straight forward advice and examples. It’s a very interesting read, and certainly worth a go. Will tells it like a friend at your side.
