Description

The Handbook of Mathematics for Engineers and Scientists covers the main fields of mathematics and focuses on the methods used for obtaining solutions of various classes of mathematical equations that underlie the mathematical modeling of numerous phenomena and processes in science and technology. To accommodate different mathematical backgrounds, the preeminent authors outline the material in a simplified, schematic manner, avoiding special terminology wherever possible. Organized in ascending order of complexity, the material is divided into two parts. The first part is a coherent survey of the most important definitions, formulas, equations, methods, and theorems. It covers arithmetic, elementary and analytic geometry, algebra, differential and integral calculus, special functions, calculus of variations, and probability theory. Numerous specific examples clarify the methods for solving problems and equations. The second part provides many in-depth mathematical tables, including those of exact solutions of various types of equations. This concise, comprehensive compendium of mathematical definitions, formulas, and theorems provides the foundation for exploring scientific and technological phenomena.

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐This book is exactly what i was looking for. Just received yesterday and was very helpful starting first day itself. It has about 1550 pages with a very detailed index which is very useful for quick navigation throughout the book. It has every math concept briefed out that you possibly come across in engineering field and much much more. I have had a lot of books before this, but all were missing some elements; this one had got everything. The formulae is followed by a brief explanation which I think is very useful bcoz it stops your wandering around. As an engineer, I think it will save a lot of my time since you have the final answer and dont have to go through all that long derivations and retouching basics. I recommend this book to every engineer.

⭐Many thanks indeed to prof. Polyanin and colleagues for writing those incredibly useful tomes on specialized topics and those awesome handbooks. It is fantastic to see the great Russian scientists sharing their vast knowledge with everyone in best traditions of the Russian scientific literature like Ryzhik and Gradshteyn.

⭐This product is a very complete reference. I recommend it for practicing engineers and scientists.

⭐This is an excellent reference book that should be at hand on any engineering reference shelf or in any lab reference library. As a companion book it is essential; although, I would not recomend it as a stand alone or sole reference point.

⭐This hefty book can be a very useful reference to practising professionals in engineering and science. It brings together numerous formulae and principles scattered throughout many textbooks. While it might sound strange to call a book of this length concise, in actuality, each section on a given subject is indeed so. Compared to you having to delve through entire texts on that subject. The treatment of numerical methods is also good. In recognition of many of us having ready access to computational power these days. The price is slightly high. But a book like this, you don’t need to get every new edition. By its nature, it should be infrequently updated.

⭐Though not concise in length (with its 1500+ pages), this reference book provides all major sections of modern mathematics, from arithmetic and elementary functions to integral equations and math statistics, in a very clear and concise way. Definitions and theorems, formulas and methods, graphs and tables, equations and solutions–all I may ever need as a researcher–are brought together in a single book.Compared to the famous math handbooks by Korn & Korn and Bronshtein & Semendyayev, it gives a much broader and more detailed description of solution methods, classical and new, for ODEs and PDEs, and also integral, difference and functional equations. And the extended and well-organized tables in the second part of the book impressed me even more. They include those of finite sums, series, indefinite and definite integrals, direct and inverse integral transforms (Laplace, Fourier and Mellin), and exact solutions to ordinary differential, partial differential, integral and functional equations and more. The 58-page long index makes the book even handier and easier to use.I am happy to have a copy of this handbook on my desk.

⭐This excellent, well organized and really useful reference book has no analogs: it is relatively concise (>1500 pages!!!) with respect to the volume of all mathematical knowledge, reasonably comprehensive, describes the state of contemporary mathematics with new author’s results, it contains numerous problems and solutions, formulas and equations, concise algorithmic descriptions of methods (“how to…”) with a variety of illustrative examples, etc.

⭐This volume replaces an old one which did not make it to our current residence. Much more up to date, informative, with reference tables, etc., which, I find very useful; especially in my study of Calculus! It is the most treasured volume in my library!

⭐great reference book if you need to do research.

⭐Good source of information
