Description

A Brief Introduction to Fluid Mechanics, 5th Edition is designed to cover the standard topics in a basic fluid mechanics course in a streamlined manner that meets the learning needs of today’s student better than the dense, encyclopedic manner of traditional texts. This approach helps students connect the math and theory to the physical world and practical applications and apply these connections to solving problems. The text lucidly presents basic analysis techniques and addresses practical concerns and applications, such as pipe flow, open-channel flow, flow measurement, and drag and lift. It offers a strong visual approach with photos, illustrations, and videos included in the text, examples and homework problems to emphasize the practical application of fluid mechanics principles. This text is an unbound, three hole punched version.

Young has contributed to many technical publications and is the author or coauthor of two textbooks on applied mechanics. He is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐Definitley a compreshensive book for studying Hydro-Engineering basics. I do wish there was a couple more examples available for the momentum equations, but overall it is a good source of material. After taking the course in 2015, graduating with an engineering degree in 2017, it is 2020 and I still use this book as a reference for my current career in the Hydro-design field.

⭐The text of the book was very clear but some of the homework problems seemed a bit vague and not directly related to the examples given. Sometimes the examples would skip steps, making it difficult to follow on your own.The biggest nuisance was in my paperback edition some of the key tables that are typically included on the front and back inside covers were missing. Many of my fellow pupils ran into this same problem with their paperback editions. My professor had to give us a print out version from her older edition hardback copy.

⭐The book doesn’t have odd number problems. Also, I was unable to access the resources and WileyPlus because my instructor did not use WileyPlus. I couldn’t watch the videos or use the Appendices online. However, it is a good book to learn basic fluid mechanics. Overall, great shipping services.

⭐It is a bad freaking book at explaining anythings. It explains everything mathematically and not conceptually like it should. The way it explain things its weird and it also keeps referencing to future chapters in examples. Things like “Remember in Chapter 3 we discussed…” when its in chapter 2. It is a pretty annoying book and its illustrations and table are pretty freaking useless.

⭐Basically helped with an easy A (98%).

⭐Overall, the text is understandable, but there are a lot of homework problems that seem very abstract and much different than the given examples. Then again, fluids can be tough.

⭐I would recommend this product to anyone taking fluid mechanics. It is pretty easy to read and there are lots of examples to go along with the homework/end of chapter problems.
