User’s Reviews
Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐This is a textbook for a college class. When i received it and opened it, I found that pages 3-6 have been torn out of it. I just got the book so I don’t know for sure, but it appears the rest of the pages are there
⭐I enjoy renting my books for less with hassle free returns.
⭐If your plan is to buy the hardcover book at receive access to the online supplemental resources, do not buy from StudentBargains3. In fact do not buy from them at all. The Amazon description of this product states that it includes the supplemental resources (MindTap). However, my book did not come with any way to access them. When I messaged the seller, I was told that the online materials were not included, even though the Amazon description states that the book comes with access to MindTap. If you want a product that matches the description it is listed under on Amazon, do not buy this book from StudentBargains3.
⭐I love this textbook! It simplifies logic and makes it fun! Although I’ve only had it for a month, I am already noticing changes in my thinking. It is more systematic and organized — but it is still a work in progress (naturally). There is a summary at the end of every chapter and formulas are in the back of the textbook. Hurley and Watson do a great job of conveying information in a way that’s simple, concise, and interesting.
⭐The spine is completely falling apart. Every time I turn a page I fear that it’s going to fall out:
⭐Needed for a class. Good condition
⭐Introduction to Logic by Copi is superior (I purchased that as well). Please buy that version over this one.I think this is the first product review I have ever left. However, my experience compels me. I have 4 earned degrees including a M.S. in Math and have completely read 3 logic texbooks so far including this one.To be fair, the book is systematic and does present a fair introduction in some respects. The skeleton of the book you might say is solid. However, the bias of the author(s) is so overwhelming it is problematic. The clearly one-sided examples and contempt for conservatives shows a lack of class, but if this were all the careful student can stil hopefully still grasp the meat of the subject and then think hopefully think through the topics for themselves. If this were all, I would give it 2-3 stars perhaps. Unfortunately there is more…While the entire book was essentially taking pot-shots at conservative arguments and presenting liberal ones, the chapter on logical fallacies deserves special attention and is the truly damning example and the reason I am so upset. In this chapter, I carefully read the title “begging the question”. I then read a paragraph blasting the teleological argument for God’s existence. At the end of it, the reader recieved indocrination on what to think, but stil had no good grasp of what begging the quesiton was. To be clear, it may be that the teleological argument (or any other argument they bash) is false or even logically invalid, but their clear hatred of it actually obscures the ability to learn the underlying concepts of logc which is why I felt compelled to warn others.
⭐I purchased this for one of my classes. It came loose leaf and I took it to my bookstore and got it bound for .50. We only used 2 chapters but it was the cheapest option and served it purpose!
