Description
Students must prove all of the theorems in this undergraduate-level text, which features extensive outlines to assist in study and comprehension. Thorough and well-written, the treatment provides sufficient material for a one-year undergraduate course. The logical presentation anticipates students’ questions, and complete definitions and expositions of topics relate new concepts to previously discussed subjects. Most of the material focuses on point-set topology with the exception of the last chapter. Topics include sets and functions, infinite sets and transfinite numbers, topological spaces and basic concepts, product spaces, connectivity, and compactness. Additional subjects include separation axioms, complete spaces, and homotopy and the fundamental group. Numerous hints and figures illuminate the text.
User’s Reviews
Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐This book builds the study of topology in a systematic fashion. Unlike several texts, it suggests that the proofs are a learning experience, not hurdles. Of course, it gives relatively few complete proofs. It typically gives hints about how the proof is done.
⭐A+
⭐A great problem is the existence of several typo mistakes affecting the reading of the book. Easy to correct in the ebook form. A good presentation of the topics, but the examples could be worked in more details.
⭐This is probably my favourite math book so far. It teaches a wide variety of topology in a very simple, intuitive andself contained way. It is a really fast read (even when doing all the exercises, of which there are plenty), and yet itmanages to teach advanced topics at a steady rate. This is both a very good introduction to topology, and a brilliantexample of a style of teaching that is both very efficient and very enjoyable at the same time.
⭐I bought this print version instead of the kindle because topology makes use of many special symbols which the Dover ebooks have trouble with. The text itself is a great self study for a fascinating branch of mathematics.
⭐Good Knowledge at affordable price. Thanks to Dover.
⭐very helpful book for beginners
⭐No proof of any theorems in this book. The reader has to supply them with a few slender hints.I wish I had known this before I purchased this book.If you can live with that, then I guess this book is fine. But you will be much better served by Principles of Topology by Croom( which has a lot of nice proofs of theorems), a book I like a lot.
⭐Covers almost all aspects of point set set topology but not too clearly. Not for the beginner as theauthor leaves much to be analysed.
