User’s Reviews

“I enjoyed every bit of it and loved watching the characters fight external and internal battles. I am so in love with this series and I didn’t want Book 2 to end! I highly recommend this series. It’s captivating and I absolutely love the characters … I recommend it to people who enjoy a good vampire romance without sacrificing the nature of vampires … I cannot wait for book 3!!”- Love, Literature, Art & Reason”A Shade of Blood is a completely captivating sequel to A Shade of Vampire … I’ve been dying to read this book ever since I read the first one … I started it immediately, and just couldn’t stop. It was that intense. This one is a must-read if you’ve read A Shade of Vampire … I’m totally smitten with this series, and I’ve got Bella to thank for that! A Shade of Blood is definitely different from what I was expecting, but I loved the surprise. The darker twists in this book make it all the more alluring, and the imagery just makes the scenes more vivid in your head … And I’m dying to read book three, to find out where it all goes.”- City Of Books What Amazon

⭐ Sofia and Ben have managed to get away from The Shade. They make it home and try to fall into their old lives. Neither Sofia nor Ben feel fulfilled by trying to go back to normal. Ben has been tortured and no longer capable of feeling things as before he was taken to the Shade. He wants vengeance against Claudia. He makes plans for life after high school. He also has made it clear to Sofia that he wants her at his side. He tries to convince her that his way is the right way and they just ignore it when they don’t agree. It is obvious how things are going to unfold with Ben and Sofia. He expects her to feel the same way about The Shade as he does. Sofia and Ben had very different experiences at The Shade. Their time there have changed them both and they both realize that you cannot erase past events just by not thinking about them. Sofia is lost in a way. She fell in love with Derek while at the island and left because it was the right thing to do. Her internal dialogue immediately questions that decision and she wishes she could go back.At the Shade, Derek if falling back into darkness. He loves and misses Sofia and attempts to forget her. He puts his focus into building a strong army to defend The Shade against it many opponents. While the island has flourished during his enchanted sleep, it’s vampires have become weak and unguarded. Derek realizes that if the island were attached, his people would not fare well against trained vampires or hunters. The prophecy was that he would find his mate and they together would find true sanctuary. With Sofia gone the only thing Derek found was pain and chaos. He knows he needs her light to be at peace within himself.I did not enjoy A Shade of Blood as Much as I enjoyed A Shade of Vampire. There is continuous viewpoint bouncing and while it was necessary in this book, I think there is just a bit too much of it. I still like the characters, or at least some of them, but this book dragged on and on. It was slow moving and I kept waiting for something to happen and take them in a new direction. Nothing happens until about the end when Sofia get a visit from someone from the island. She and Ben both venture off in a new direction after this encounter. By the end of this book however, I don’t like Ben anymore. I don’t hate him and I sometimes feel sorry for him but I don’t like his heavy-handed approach at reaching his goals or the demanding and dismissive aspects of his personality. I was glad to get to the end of this book and I hope that the next one is as good as the first.

⭐ After I read the first book in the A Shade of Vampire series in October I couldn’t understand how it was that I had not read about this series before. I just loved that first book! So when I was looking for my next read, I bought myself a little gift and started reading ‘A Shade of Blood’.Since I loved the first book ‘A Shade of Vampire’, I had some very high expectations for this book. Unfortunately I didn’t love this book half as much as I did the first one. I just didn’t really ‘feel’ this book at all. For starters this book has this love triangle between Sofia, Derek and Ben and I just didn’t get it. To me it felt like Sofia choose Derek in the first book, but somehow in this book she is with Ben. She still thinks about Derek a lot but tries a relationship with Ben. I definitely did not get that and I just didn’t really like it.What didn’t help at all was the fact that I really disliked Ben’s character. I mean what an arrogant selfish guy was he! Every time I read about his character I had to force myself to keep on reading. And even though I loved Derek’s character in the first book, I didn’t like him as much in this one. In this book he was a lot darker, and I missed his kindness.Although I had many issues with this book, the ending gave me a lot to think about and I found myself very curious about what is going to happen next. I even have more questions now after finishing this book then I had after I finished reading the first book. So I still would like to read the third book in this series. But this book definitely wasn’t what I hoped it would be.

⭐ Loved this so much that it’s the second time I’ve read it. I just wish it wasn’t drawn out in places. And sometimes I get so mad at the characters. But I guess that’s what makes it irresistible. Both sides are about the same caliber. The hunters are so angry they just want to kill every single vampire. And the vampires want to do the same. The whole series is more or less a Stockholm syndrome thing and we really shouldn’t see it for anything but what it is. Girls taken against their will and used and abused by vampires. But ohh how it makes it so good! When it’s a dreamy vampire who has a crush on you it makes it more fun. Sometimes I wish this author would rewrite this into a dark romance lol. Of course, the girls should be older I guess. As far as Sofia’s parents, they are so unfit. I despise them. And I can’t stand Ben’s mom. She gets on my nerves. I wish one of the vampires would kill her lol. But omg, if you haven’t read this, you really don’t know what you’re missing. It’s even better than Twilight series.

⭐ I obviously have a lot more books to read in this series and I have definitely gotten a late start to this series that SO many people have talked about and have compared it to the Twilight Saga books. Since I have only read the first two books in this series, I don’t think it would be fair for me to say whether or not I agree with everyone else, but I guess time will tell as I continue on to the remaining books. I will say that so far, I am definitely enjoying the storyline and the relationship between, Derek and Sofia. I look forward to reading the third book in this series, especially with how this book ended. I believe the first 7 or 8 books in this series that are strictly about what’s going on with Derek and Sofia and Sofia’s role in The Shade so I’m anxious to see how it plays out and if I continue to enjoy the rest of this storyline specifically, it will make up my mind if I want to continue reading the rest of the books, only because there are SO many books still left to read. Until I started reading and fell in love with Holly Roberts books, the Twilight Saga books were my favorite so it’s going to take a lot for me to feel the same way about A Shade of a Vampire Series, as I do with Holly Roberts and D’Elen McClain books. Thus far, you have my curiosity peaked.

⭐ Will she be able to forget the horrors that steal her sleep away at night?Or the feelings that haunt her for that tormented prince of darkness?Another smash hit from this author! With every page I read, the book became more captivating and hooking and breathtaking. The writing and story is spectacular. Such a grand read.Such a unique and, honestly, quite a special read that will stay in your memories for a long long time to come.Full of vampires, magic, mystery, action, hunters, longing, attraction and romance.Perfect for readers of paranormal romances.

⭐ Back on the beach at Cancun, the same place they were both taken from months ago, Sofia and Ben aren’t ready to go home yet. And having missed it for so long, they find themselves trying to soak up as much sun as they can. Having been left with a large quantity of money, they book themselves into the villa they had been staying in previously. After a few days, they feel the time has come to call Ben’s parents. When they arrive, they don’t tell them where they were and when questioned by the police, they say they just ran away. They say nothing about where Ben got the scars all over his body from his torture at the hands of Claudia, and at Sofia’s request, there’s no mention of the vampires or The Shade.Ben has a name and number for the hunters, given to him by a hunter who tried to save him on the island, but ended up being killed herself when they were caught. Knowing that his life will never be the same again, and having the need for vengeance and retribution, he plans to contact them. He tells Sofia that he’ll give her some time, but that then, with or without her, he’ll be making that call. He needs to take his revenge on the vampires, especially Claudia. But Sofia can’t seem to forget Derek and The Shade, and when Ben wants to become more than friends, something that she herself had wanted for a long time, she finds that she can’t give herself wholly to him. Part of her still belongs to Derek. And without Sofia there, the darkness is overtaking Derek. He’s a completely different character than the Derek we met in A Shade of Vampire, and it was interesting seeing this other side to him. But it was also nice to see the effect that Sofia had on him when she returned, to find him in a compromising position with Ashley.Lucas is not in this book too much, though we do get his POV a couple of times. He’s on the run from Derek who will kill him for what he did to Sofia. But if he wasn’t obsessed with her before, having tasted her blood, he can’t stop thinking about her, and won’t rest until she is his.Things are getting tough in the Shade. Derek is struggling to keep everyone under control and try to keep Sofia happy at the same time. The vampires are not happy that Sofia, a human slave, is being put before them. But Sofia is not happy with the way things are currently done. She wants the humans who live in the Shade to be treated better and not treated like slaves or food which is exactly how the vampires see them. Sofia has learned a lot about how things are run in the Shade and has read it’s history, and it doesn’t sit well with her. There are going to be tough times ahead, and revelations throughout this books make for what should be a really interesting third book in this series.I’m also looking forward to learning more about the prophecy made by Cora, the witch, over four hundred years ago, and what it means to Derek and Sofia, and to the Shade. Derek seems to be going to have quite the fight on his hands if he’s going to manage to hold onto Sofia.

⭐ I really liked the introduction we got to the characters and world of The Shade in the first book, A Shade of Vampire, and was happy to see that this book picked up right where that one left off with Sofia and Ben being allowed to leave the island. For the first half of the book we get to follow along with Sofia, Ben and Derek as they try to deal with the fallout of their time together and try to move on with their lives. For Sofia and Ben they try to return to their lives at high school and even try to take their relationship to the next level but it’s clear that they are both dealing with some PTSD issues due to their time spent in The Shade. This aftermath was very well written and I found their reactions and how they dealt with things to be very believable. Derek is also dealing with losing Sofia and some might say that he’s not handling it very well. It was obvious from the last book how much she came to mean to him during their time together and how she somehow brought light to his darkness, but without her we get to see the darkness start to overtake him again. I liked how we go to bounce between the three perspectives, it was fascinating to see how very different each of the three were dealing with what happened.About halfway through the book Sofia and Ben have to choose which path they are going to take and from here out there are plenty of twists and turns and new information (including a few jaw dropping moments) that promises to make you want to keep reading to find out what happens next! Several new enemies pop up and we see that Sofia is important to them all, I am very excited to see how it all plays out!As with the first book, the characters are well written and the multiple POV’s is seamless and I think an effective way to tell this story. The imagery is also wonderfully described, I can clearly picture The Shade and all of its beauty in my head as I am reading. It’s very interesting the juxtaposition of the beauty of this island with the horrors that have (and are still) taking place within its confines. I also have to say that the covers of the books in this series are also stunning, I think they all capture the beauty and the wonder of The Shade perfectly. This was a very good follow up to A Shade of Vampire and I’m eager to continue on this journey!

⭐ I had A Shade of Vampire in my “to read” pile for a long time. It had great reviews but I was skeptical on another vampire story. I finally succumbed to the curiosity and read it. It was a short book and didn’t take much time to get through it. After finishing, I was torn. The story was ok. Not fabulous, not terrible. Did I want to continue reading? Did I really care what happened to Sofia and Derek? Maybe yes, maybe no…I had a hard time deciding before eventually giving in and buying the second book in the series. I AM SO GLAD I DID. I was immediately sucked into this second story. Could. Not. Put. It. Down. I hear it was a gorgeous day yesterday. I wouldn’t know. Though there are some things about it that bother me, such as a vampire whose been asleep for 400 years wakes up and speaks like he’s a typical man from the 21st century, and other idiosyncrasy’s, the writing of Ms. Forrest was great. The story begins to layer deeper and deeper setting a foundation for an extraordinary world. I’m about to embark on the third novel in this series and recommend giving this one a shot. You won’t be disappointed!

⭐ This book is the sequel in an amazing series about humans and vampires and what happens when they fall in love. The first book in this series A Shade of Vampire tells the story of Sofia and Ben and how they are kidnapped and brought to a remote island where the vampires in the Novak clan live called The Shade. Sofia quickly forms a bond with the Vampire Prince Derek, while Ben has a completely different experience. Ben and Sofia are ultimately given the opportunity to escape the island which has never happened before in the history of The Shade.Book 2 picks up right where the first one leads off… Sofia and Ben return to their lives only to find they can never truly escape The Shade. Ben decides he is going to leave and join the hunters and Sofia comes to the realization that she can’t turn away from her love of the Vampire Prince. The characters in this series are superbly written! You can’t help but love them. The characters all develop as the books go on, and just when you think they can’t possibly become anymore conflicted something new pops up to completely take the reader by storm!Considering these are Bella’s first two books, I think she has spun a great tale of loves need to conquer all! This book gets five out of five stars from me; however, I do feel as though this book left me with more questions than answers! I am very impatiently waiting for book number 3.

⭐ I wasn’t at all impressed by the first book of this series, and if I hadn’t by accident ordered the second one first I wouldn’t have bothered, I bought the second, and realizing what I’d done, added the first, it wasn’t well written at all, limp and fairly uninteresting, enough of a hook to read the second though and it was such a contrast I have to wonder why, it seems almost as though it’s written by a different author. The second is good, the pace keeps it moving along, The ideas behind the book are interesting and different enough too. I think it’s a bit predictable, although there are twists and turns in it.
