User’s Reviews

Review From the funny to the gritty, from the emotional to the uncomfortable, we’re convinced there is nothing this lady can’t write…This is the most beautiful, emotional, and stunningly written love story we’ve ever read…This book is as special as special can be.– “Totally Booked Blog (10 and our hearts are bursting stars)”I highly recommend this book with all my heart. Be prepared to ugly cry. Possibly more than once. I can almost guarantee that you’ll be full-out sobbing at some point. But know that it is absolutely worth every single tear, because the ending was more beautiful than I could ever have imagined.– “Aestas Book Blog (6 stars)”Tillie Cole ripped my heart out and then put it back together with a thousand kisses. Her writing is achingly beautiful and brilliant beyond words. Consider yourself warned: A Thousand Boy Kisses will leave you wrecked in the best way possible.– “Jess Daniels, USA Today bestselling author” –This text refers to the audioCD edition.

⭐ Spoiler, childhood friends kiss and swear love forever, he moves away and they lose contact, he comes back a rebel and she has cancer. Further spoiler, they have sex and she dies. During the month of September 2017 when my family began an extended black out after a devastating hurricane, I read this book which happened to be available on the phone that I would charge in my car. This is one of the most pathetic, predictable, clichéd, manipulative, and poorly written things that I have read in many years, or possibly in my whole life. When I got to the end and she had even written a SOUNDTRACK to this painful mess, I laughed out loud because I guess the author thinks that it will be a movie some day? The only reason I finished the book was because of the horrible conditions outside of my home. Do yourself a favor. DO NOT READ THIS. You will lose hours or days of your life that you can never regain. And you cannot unread it. The only thing that I could recommend would be to read it to laugh or to dissect it in a class that criticizes horrible literature.

⭐ This book was garbage. Complete, depressing, unrealistic, unrelatable, GARBAGE.!SPOILER ALERT!..They both only date each other for their whole life, only have sex twice (with each other), don’t talk for two years during high school hormones and still Rune never so much as even held someone’s hand during that time? Oh and the “mean girl” wasn’t even mean, yet Rune always had to “cast her a glare” when he saw her because she had shown interest in him.Oh and by the end they’re both dead, but you don’t know how Rune dies, but Poppy does but she’s not telling us.This whole story was so stupid my heart almost BURST!

⭐ A Thousand Boy Kisses sat on my Kindle for quite some time. I was hesitant from hearing others talk about it but something kept telling me to go read it so I finally dove in. It took me forever to get through but I was determined to finish. It’s not because I didn’t enjoy it, I LOVED it. It literally broke my heart in two. I don’t know why that is because most of the time I’ll tear up or may have a good cry but this time I cried continuously, where you cry so much the white part of your eyeballs are covered red and your nose gets stuffed up. I’ve never cried this much over a book. Even my dog was worried about me. He jumped on my lap, stared at me for awhile then licked my tears. This book should have been called A Thousand Tears.“She was my cherry blossom. An unrivaled beauty, limited in its life. A beauty so extreme in its grace that it can’t last. It stays to enrich our lives, then drifts away in the wind. Never forgotten. Because it reminds us we must live. That life is fragile, yet in that fragility, there is strength. There is love. There is purpose. It reminds us that life is short, that our breaths are numbered and our destiny is fixed, regardless of how hard we fight. It reminds us not to waste a single second. Live hard, love harder. Chase dreams, seek adventures … capture moments. Live beautifully.”For those of you who have also put it off because you were too afraid to read, please take a chance. You’ll probably cry but I promise you it’s worth every tear. I will never forget this book as long as I live.

⭐ This book ripped out my soul and left its tattered remains behind. I cried, big ugly tears, non stop for the few hours it took me to read this book. My husband admonished me “Why are you reading this book if it is so sad?” I just blubbered “Because that’s what makes it so good, when it rips you in two.” And Tillie Cole did that, she just bloody ripped me in two. Rune and Poppy have the most magical love story, and lived a life full of adventure.Their journey is not easy, in fact sometimes it was down right impossible to read. My eyes were so wattery the words blurred together and I’d have to pause to catch my breath. This journey is so full of every emotion, innocence, laughter, joy, hatred, desperation, sorrow, acceptance. Reading this book, although fiction, has made me re-evaluate my life. I want to live more like Poppy, enjoying all that life has to give even when I am not feeling well and even when it hurts to move. I want to tell my daughter about jars with a thousand boy kisses and most of all I want my kids to live. I want them to experience life with joy and wonder just like Poppy.

⭐ THIS. BOOK. BROKE. MY. HEART. INTO. A. THOUSAND. LITTLE. HEARTS.I didn’t think I would make it through this book. I cried and cried and cried and …………This is a love story like no other and I hate/love it. God! Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!! What can I say to you people out there! My feelings are just shot! This book is so beautiful, so sad and just d••n it.Rune and Poppy met when they were 5 years old. Rune had just moved from Norway to Georgia and he hated it until that moment he met Poppy and everything became crystal clear. He met his best friend, his soul mate. But nothing lasts forever and I sure didn’t see this one coming. I had my mind set on not finishing the book because I thought when they were separated at 15 that it would be just another “oh they are apart now and lets find other people and this was all meaningless”. It wasn’t like that, not like that at all. Did I mention is was the most beautifully, sad love story ever!EXCERPT”Rune,” she said, her voice serious and strong, “you live right next door, and you’re a Viking and I just love Vikings. I think we should be best friends.””Best friends?” I asked.Poppy nodded her head and pushed her hand further toward me. Slowly reaching out my own hand, I gripped hold of hers and gave it two shakes, like she’d shown me.A handshake.”So now we are best friends?” I asked, as Poppy pulled her hand back.”Yes!” she said excitedly. “Poppy and Rune.” She brought her finger to her chin and looked up. Her lips stuck out again, like she was thinking very hard. “It sounds good, don’t you think? ‘Poppy and Rune, best friends for infinity!'”Just kill me now because you all have no idea!!!!!!!!!!!! :-(So Poppy’s mamaw died when Poppy was 8 and she left Poppy and mason jar with little hearts in them so she could collect a thousand special boy kisses. She was to write them down on the hearts and have them for a lifetime to pass down to her children.Rune and Poppy were in the blossom grove, Rune was comforting Poppy. Then Poppy told Rune about the jar her mamaw gave to her.EXCERPTHe stared down at me, then at the jar. My chest hurt again; I could see he wasn’t happy by the look on his face. He’d gone all moody again.I stepped closer to my best friend, and Rune’s eyes fixed on mine.”Poppymin,” he said, his voice deeper-hard and strong. “Poppymin! It means my Poppy. For infinity, forever and always. You’re MY Poppy!”I opened my mouth to shout back at him, to tell him this was an adventure I just had to start. But as I did, Rune leaned forward and suddenly pressed his lips to mine.I froze. I couldn’t move a muscle as I felt his lips against my lips. They were warm. He tasted like cinnamon. The wind blew his long hair over my cheeks. It started to tickle my nose.Rune pulled back, but his face stayed near mine. I tried to breathe, but my chest felt funny, kind of light and fluffy. And my heart was beating so fasts. So fast that I pressed my hand over my chest to feel it racing underneath.•••••”You kissed me,” I whispered, stunned. Rune lifted his hand to hold mine. He lowered our joined hands by his side.”I’ll give you a thousand kisses, Poppymin. All of them. No one will kiss you ever, but me.”END EXCERPTThe story tells about Rune’s love for photography and how he was going to college in New York because of said photography. Poppy played the cello and was going to college in New York because of said cello. They were going to be together living their dreams. They had friends, they had each other, they had a love that could match no other. And then… I will never tell you but for the love of all that is holy, it all changed and it’s the most heart breaking thing I have read in a long time! The ending was so sad, I can’t even. I just can’t!!!!!!! Rune and Poppy’s story ends in the blossom grove. My word of advice is to have a box of kleenex handle. I almost went through a while box myself. If you love unbelievable love stories, because there can’t be love like that in this cr•••y world, then this story is for you. If you don’t really want your heart broken and stomped on then it’s probably not, but read it anyway!THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ MY REVIEW. IT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. ♥

⭐ I’ve had this book on my kindle for quite some time now. I knew I had to find the right time to read it. This is a beautiful story that will rip your heart apart. Before diving into this one, make sure you have plenty of tissue at your side.In Love. Two halves of one heart.Poppy and Rune met when they were 5 years old. This book spans through the next 12 years. Two young children meeting for the first time with a simple handshake. Because we all know, a simple handshake was the polite way to introduce yourself to a person you don’t know.As their friendship grows, distance is put between these two. It’s a very hard separation. One that changes who they are. Darkness comes and with that their love for each other never diminishes. Looking back, their love grows even though they are missing each other’s half of their heart. When finally back together, after a couple years, Rune and Poppy are forced to come head on with what life has dealt them.Because it reminds us that we must live. That life is fragile, yet in that fragility, there is strength. There is love. There is purpose. It reminds us that life is short, that our breaths are numbered and our destiny is fixed, regardless of how hard we fight. It reminds us not to waste a single second. Live hard, love harder. Chase dreams, seek adventures…. Capture moments.Live beautifully. That’s exactly what they did…. Live beautifully.Oh my gosh …. this book broke me! Such a beautiful story. One that give you all the feels and more. Two young kids that fell in love. A deep love that would last forever. A total sinus cleanser, eye cleanser, heart shattering book that all should read!!!

⭐ Heartbreaking.Beautiful.Must Read.Rune is a Norwegian “Viking” who moved to Georgia when he was five. He is sullen and broody but oh so pretty. The day he moved into his house in Blossom Grove he met and fell in love with the girl next door.Poppy is a sweet southern girl with an unwaveringly sunny disposition. She instantly befriends Rune and their connection grows from best friends to more as the two get older. When they are eight, Poppy’s mamaw gives her a jar of paper hearts to collect boy-kisses. Rune and Poppy vow to fill the jar and never kiss anyone else.At fifteen, life seems perfect for Poppy and Rune but they quickly learn that like cherry blossoms and shooting stars, truly beautiful things don’t last forever.”Kiss eight hundred and nineteen was the kiss that changed it all. The kiss that proved that a long-haired brooding boy from Norway and a quirky girl from the Deep South could find a love to rival the greats.”Tillie Cole portrays a kind of connection between these characters that is epic and beautiful. Their challenges are equally monumental. This is a modern romantic tragedy that should not be missed.I didn’t know if this was going to end with an HEA so I put off reading it until I had a whole day to dedicate to reading. I usually listen to audiobooks at work and while cleaning and exercising. Do NOT try to read/listen to this book while multitasking! I was sobbing. My eight-year-old son caught me and stayed with me in bed for over an hour while I cried and read and cried some more.Spoiler Alert……..I explained to my son, “When an author writes a really good book you fall in love with the characters and they become your friends. When something bad happens to them you feel sad for them. When they die it is like losing a friend.”The narration of the audiobook was excellent. P.J. Ochlan and did a great job of Rune’s emotions and the various accents he did were impressive. Katie Schorr was perfect as the sweet southern Poppy.

⭐ This book completely wrecked me from beginning to end. I saw all the reviews saying pretty much the same and I just love a good story that gives me all the feels (including tears) so I figured I had to try it. I stayed up until 2am reading this book to the very end. By the time I got to the last few pages I was trying hard to muffle my sobs in my pillow so I didn’t wake my husband. I’ve never ever cried so much reading a book. I’m talking constant tears flowing down my cheeks. The last few pages were hard to get through only because I couldn’t see through the water in my eyes. This book will take you on an emotional rollercoaster and it’s completely worth the ride. I fell in love with Poppy and Ruen and the true love they had for each other. It’s the kind of love everyone else feels along with them. It was intense and perfect and it make you sure that soulmates exist. Even though this wasn’t a true story, I know that kind of love because I live it every day. My husband and I were high school sweethearts and have been together 16 wonderful years (6 of them as husband and wife). To read a story that portrays young love a a real and tangible thing was refreshing. So many books make young love seem immature and/or impossible. But these characters were wise beyond their years and it was easy to tell they were both made for each other. Put on this earth to be each other’s other half. I know that feeling, that love, and it made this story even more precious and dear to me. Thank you, Tillie Cole, for sharing a story so heartbreaking yet so heart-healing that it will stay with me forever.

⭐ In all fairness, I was very hesitant to start this book. If you read the synopsis, you’ll get a feel for the age of our characters… Teenagers. Young adult. YA. I really struggle with reading teen romance because I can’t connect with the age range. Obviously I’m not completely against reading this genre, but more times than not, I can’t get into it. But when Tillie Cole writes a YA, I read it. All limits are off the table for this woman’s books. There’s a second reason, but I’m not saying why. Sorry, I don’t spoil books. With the afore mentioned in mind, there were parts- very early on- where I struggled with the age of the characters. I honestly couldn’t believe that these kids, literally, were this in-touch with their feelings and souls. Some of their conversations were deep! Don’t get me wrong, the meaning was absolutely beautiful and heartfelt, but between teenagers? I couldn’t connect, but that’s me being a picky reader. This beautiful story between Rune Kristiansen and Poppy Litchfield was filled with heartache, secrets, love, and forgiveness. Rune definitely stole the show with his antics and sweet affections towards his Poppymin. The fact that he would move mountains and not admit his efforts was commendable and spoke volumes to how he felt about her.It took awhile for the emotion of the story to hit me. But it came in like a wrecking ball (no Miley Cyrus puns intended) during the last 50 pages. Each chapter, every scene, was more thoughtful and emotional than the last and was totally worth the wait. The amount of tears I’ve shed in my lifetime over Tillie Cole’s books is astronomical. (And I’m still a book behind.) I seriously could’ve filled a jar with all of the tears this book took from me.

⭐ Warning….this one is gonna hurt! No way around that, so be prepared for that! Just know that it is 100% worth it too! I read this one right after another book had tormented my soul for days. Yet just when I thought I was all cried out…Tillie Cole manages to steal more from me! My heart just held on for the ride with this one! To be honest, I know that I read the blurb years ago when I added it to my TBR, but I had pretty much forgotten it so when I started this one I wasn’t sure where it was going. MY HEART!!!! It just broke! More than once!My favorite part is that even in the darkest of moments, the hardest and most heartbreaking ones…their love won over any other emotion they experienced and it showed in their actions more than anything! This is just the kind of book that you won’t escape without feeling the intensity of the Poppy & Rune’s love! What they meant to each other and how hard they loved! What they were willing to sacrifice for the other and their love.A THOUSAND BOY KISSES is BOOK 2 of my 2022 #12books12friends BOOK CHALLENGE!I had 12 of my book friends recommend their favorite book or a book they love and put them all in a jar to draw one each month.I want to give HUGE THANKS to one of my bests, Megan (IG – meganreads_ ) for recommending this one to me! It has been on my TBR for a bit and I’m so thankful it got yanked to the top, it was exactly the kind of love story that I love getting lost inside!
