He holds degrees in both English and math from Rutgers University. He has earned his living for many years writing vast quantities of logic puzzles, a hefty chunk of software documentation, and the occasional book or film review. Along the way, he’s also paid a few bills doing housecleaning, decorative painting, and (for ten hours) retail sales. He likes writing best, though.
Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐I have been scared of math since the 6th grade! So far, this book has been easy to read and follow. I really believe I can learn this stuff because the material isn’t intimidating. The author has done a great job. I recommend this book.
⭐This is a good primer on basic math and pre-algebra concepts. Like the other “for dummies” books, it distills the explanatory material that you get in the textbooks down to the most important points and then has tips for solving problems, cautions about common mistakes, provides some examples, and gives some problems to work on. It will help develop the fundamental skills that you will need before getting into algebra. I will say, that you need to be aware of your learning style before you get this. Even though it is an easier read than a textbook, if you do not learn well by reading and learn better through more of a traditional lecture and seeing problems worked out, this may not be right for you. But, if you are looking for something that will help you make sense of the textbook and give more examples, this is a good option.
⭐So many questions answered that would have helped when I was actually in a math class! Why do they beat kids over the head with endless practice problems when material like this seems glossed over but would give such a better foundation?

⭐Ok
⭐I am returning to college and math is not my strong suit. This book Basic Math & Pre-Algebra for Dummies is just what I needed. This is the first used book I have purchased and I found it to be in great condition. It is great that Amazon offers this options. I will surely be looking for college books at Amazon when I am in need. Thanks Amazon, You Rock
⭐This book is great! Super great for learning or refresh your math skills!
⭐I had not done math and algebra in years: this book walks you through the entire process of learning Math (RE-learning in my case) and I must say that it does a pretty good job. Not all “For Dummies” books are equal (some are really useless in my humble opinion) but this specific book holds to its title and its content. Recommended.
⭐This book seems quite detailed and covers a whole range of topics, but considering it’s meant to be written for dummies, I didn’t find it easy to understand at all! I employed a private Maths tutor and took the book along with me on one occasion. He said himself that the methods used in the book were not the simplest.
⭐Does what it says on the cover. Useful revision aid.
⭐Easily read
⭐I had to relearn maths almost entirely to pass my training course, and this book had the answer. It’s very well written and doesn’t treat you like an idiot for not knowing the basics. Well worth picking up the workbook to go with it.
⭐It’s ok.
