Description

In a masterpiece of supernatural mystery and apocalyptic prophecy, New York Times bestselling authors James Rollins and Rebecca Cantrell bring to a thunderous conclusion their epic trilogy of novels set between the worlds of shadow and light, between salvation and damnation, where the very gates of Hell must be shattered to discover the true fate of humankind in…

Blood Infernal

As an escalating scourge of grisly murders sweeps the globe, archaeologist Erin Granger must decipher the truth behind an immortal prophecy foretold in the Blood Gospel, a tome written by Christ and lost for centuries: The shackles of Lucifer have been loosened, and his Chalice remains lost. It will take the light of all three to forge the Chalice anew and banish him again to his eternal darkness. With the Apocalypse looming, Erin must again join forces with Army Sergeant Jordan Stone and Father Rhun Korza to search for a treasure lost for millennia. But the prize has already fallen into the hands of their enemy, a demon named Legion, before whom even the walls of the Vatican will fall.

The search for the key to salvation will take Erin and the others across centuries and around the world, from the dusty shelves of the Vatican’s secret archives to lost medieval laboratories, where ancient alchemies were employed to horrific ends. All the while, they are hunted, besieged by creatures of uncanny skill and talent. As clues are dug free from ancient underground chapels and found frozen in icy mountain caverns, Erin will discover that the only hope for victory lies in an impossible act–one that will destroy not only her, but all she loves. To protect the world, Erin must walk through the very gates of Hell and face the darkest of enemies: Lucifer himself.

With The Blood Gospel, the first novel in the Order of the Sanguines series, James Rollins and Rebecca Cantrell combined science, myth, and religion to introduce a breathtaking world where miracles hold new meaning and the fight for good over evil is far more complicated than we ever dreamed. And now, in this epic conclusion to the Sanguines trilogy, Blood Infernal, they take us to the very pit of Hell itself, making us peer into the abyss and face our greatest fears, to answer the ultimate question: What price will we pay for true salvation?

⭐ I just finished reading Blood Infernal, the third and final volume of Jim’s and Rebecca’s The Order of Sanguines series. The quest to find Lucifer and the ‘Angelchild’ has brought our four characters to the ultimate battle between good and evil.I have been seeing posts of so many people who ‘steam-rolled’ their way through this book in a day. I couldn’t. I’m too reluctant to say goodbye. I have been on the most exhilarating, exhausting, frightening and satisfying roller coaster of a ride through this trilogy of books. I have laughed, cried, screamed and covered my head with my sheets in fright while walking alongside these characters. The closer I got to the end of this third volume, the slower I would read. I couldn’t let go. I tried to limit my reading to the evenings after I retired, but found myself stealing precious work-allotted minutes during the day. Dr. Erin Granger, Sergeant Jordan Stone, Father Rhun Korza and Countess Elisabeta Bathory have walked out of my life headed to new, unknown encounters where I can’t follow. In the first volume, Blood Gospel, we are introduced to Dr. Granger, Sergeant Stone and Father Korza who are thrown together investigating the discovery of ancient ruins uncovered after an earthquake at Masada, Israel. There, in a hidden tomb, they learn about a book written in Christ’s blood by His own hand – The Blood Gospel. Their quest is to find this book.In the second volume, Innocent Blood, we are thrust back into the dark world of the Sanguines, an immortal group founded on the blood of Christ. Subsequently, they must find and protect a young boy who is believed to be an angel given flesh. Their search takes them to all corners of the earth where they wind up locked in a battle at the gates of Hell. This has been the most gut wrenching goodbye (to four people who I have come to consider as close friends) I have ever had to experience. Jim and Rebecca set out writing this series hoping to pull us into a world of the unknown, residing in their imagination, where we had never been. Wow, did they ever succeed! I don’t want to leave. Kudos, you fantastical, Wizards of Words. Even though I read as slow as I dared, it still came to an end. I envy Jim’s and Rebecca’s ability to follow this group as they cross the threshold in that hidden Sanctuary far beneath St. Peter’s Basilica. But, you never know. With a little hope and a whole lot of luck, one day, we may turn the corner in some dark, back alley on our literary journeys to stumble upon four old friends who have been just as anxious to visit with us again, as we have been with them. Thank you, Rebecca. Thank you, Jim. Please, continue to wield your mighty pens to conjure up and write about more magical destinations and characters for us to discover and fall in love with all over again.

⭐ I had bought the first book in the trilogy, “Blood Gospel”. For some reason this book sat on my bookshelf unread for several years. I was thinning out my bookshelf to donate books I have read and others I had no desire to read for whatever reason, to my local library. “Blood Gospel” was in the pile to be given away. However, something prompted me to read the dust jacket, hmmm, seems interesting, then I started reading the first few pages… then I was hooked. This is a great story, it turned out to be one of those books I could not put down. “Blood Infernal” (#2 in the trilogy), was the same. After reading the first installment (Blood Gospel), I had to have the second and third! I was completely pleased with all three books and yearned for more… Those two writers were excellent collaborators.

⭐ Has its moments. I mean it really does. It just seemed like too rushed at the end in my opinion. I thought that it was action packed but these scenes became repetitive. More time could have been spent on the ending. I mean these people or angels or whatever die a zillion times. How about more story about Hugh, Legion, etc. That would have made a better conclusion . Just rushed for the last 10-15 percent of the book because too many repetitive battles.

⭐ The Order of the Sanguines Series was a great series for the readers that enjoys the characters. I especially liked the missions in all three of the books. Starting with the Blood Gospel. The strigoi characters make these books a great read! I found myself reading late in to the night. Really enjoyed looking up some of the churches in google as I got intwined on the stories.

⭐ I couldn’t put this novel down. Love the unusual religious “funning” and historical perspective. The characters were well drawn. I was rooting for the bad guys to win in this novel. The series is a great series. You do have to love the genre to read this. I enjoyed the point of view that Lazarus was the first vampire. There is always time for redemption.

⭐ This is the third book in the Order of the Sanguines Series. The first was Blood Gospel, then Innocent Blood and last this one. Also there were two short stories that pertained to this series on Kindle (City of Screams and Blood Brothers). I was totally surprised by this series. James Rollins’ books always contain so much historical data, it’s like taking a history lesson from your favorite professor. There were a lot of Bible verses in this book too. You are not only kept on the edge of your seat trying to second guess what is about to happen, but the pace is so fast. My comment to a fellow reader was “You are not going to believe how this book ends!” When reading Rollins’ books, I always find myself reading faster and faster to try to finally know how the characters’ lives are going to turn out.

⭐ This book is a great read because it has everything, love, heroes, sacrifice, religion, good vs evil, and finally a happy ending for all. The way the story is woven together you can’t guess the ending and you can’t stand not to finishe the book to see how it all comes out in the end. Before the Da Vinci Code there were the Sanguinists. This is different take on vampires that no one ever thought of, until now.

⭐ As always, a great thriller. However, this series is much “different” than one would expect. Mr. Rollins and Ms. Cantrell has done a wonderful job weaving and interweaving plots and history with action and an “ancient order” no one would expect. Held me to the last, and will probably one day read again! I am a perfectionist (and a writer, oh no!), and tend to home in on grammar mistakes, etc. This book: I could find none. The only thing I faced was reconciling a few issues – but none that would hinder the book in any way. Highly recommended.

⭐ I thoroughly enjoyed the first two novels in this trilogy—at least that was what I thought it was going to be. Now I see it listed as “The Order of the Sanguines Series” and this third book ends in such a way that future books are certainly possible. I think that disappointed me the most. The writing is tight. I have read other books by these authors which they wrote independent of each other. They both write a good story.”Blood Infernal” will likely not make much sense if you have not read the first two books in sequence.I enjoy the fact that historically based detail is correct but the authors have added complicated twists that keep the suspense and intrigue taut. There is a strong spiritual connection in this series. It is not just a good vs. evil plot. I appreciate the strong reminder that choosing the “right thing” for others is not always easy nor the best way to proceed.

⭐ As far as I am aware, I have read all of James Rollins books and have enjoyed every one. It seems like they just keep getting better and more sophisticated. The only problem is that I can read them faster than he can write them.Note: I have marked the book “some violence” and “no sexual content” but I must confess that I am not particularly sensitive to those issues so others may disagree with my evaluation. I also feel that such material is handled with skill so as to retain the impact without upsetting the reader (or at least without upsetting me.) For example, the books often include violent scenes but the author doesn’t dwell on the blood and gore. He uses the scene to build (or release) tension but not to revel in violence for its own sake. caveat emptor.I also love the way he builds a story based on solid scientific facts. These books are not so much science fiction as science that could happen!
