Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐I am currently on my27th build after reading this book to get me started. I can build a $1200 desktop for about $700 PLUS all parts warrantied 1 year, the CPU 3 years, and the memory lifetime warranty. I fix and upgrade computer hard drives, video cards, memories, virus removal in my spare time and it gives me an extra $500 to 1000 a month with a $200 tool and equipment investment. For your first build though chances are you have all the tools needed in your family tool box. This book work especially well with pcpartpicker.com as pcpartpicker will not let you use incompatible parts in the same build AND shows who has part cheapest (usually Amazon.) Read this book, go to the library, and after looking through it you will have the reason to buy it. Honestly, building a pc is just plugging wires together and screwing a few screws with a cross tip screw driver. My first build took me 3 days, now its about 90 minutes.
⭐This book came in handy when I bought it.
⭐”Building A PC for Dummies” is an excellent book in that it assumes that you, the reader, know nothing about computers, yet it does so in a very non-insulting way. Informative, educational, and written in easy-to-follow steps, this book is an absolutely terrific way to start learning a new trade or develop a new hobby. Excellent resources round out this book and give you many directions to turn when wanting to learn more.
⭐This isn’t a book for experts, obviously , but a good source of basic knowledge of your PC. I knew that before I started, but wanted to start my computer education at a basic level, and this book does that. Worth the time to read if you want to learn right.
⭐For the absolute beginner, this book is an excellent tool. Its only problem is that in attempting to cover a broad amount of information in a small amount of space, it must leave out particulars such as in depth explanations of the various components of each part. Explanations such as these would make choosing parts and understanding jargon a lot easier and would make the book more resistant to the passage of time (the recommendations are quite dated). If you want a computer that would have been the bee’s knees in 1999 this is a great resource; otherwise, you will definitely need to use this book in conjunction with a more exhaustive source.
⭐I would not feel like a dummy reading this book. It delivers what It claims. I have the 2005 version and it is still worth reading. I recommend this book as a good foundation. The new version I would suspect as comparable.
⭐Outdated material, I was really disapointed in the fact that the discussions were about hardware that mostly wasn’t even used anymore, like floppy disk readers.
⭐PC hardware and software changes rapidly, and this book desperately needs updating. No discussions of Pentium 4 class systems and related current memory and operating system updates. Save your $. If you are ready to build, consider the OReilly “PC Hardware in a Nutshell” book instead.
⭐well worth a read
⭐This was an earlier edition of this publication, which was OK for me as I just wanted a general overview on how a PC goes together.Had I wished to construct a ‘modern’ PC then I would have bought a new edition.
⭐The book I bought was out of date
⭐Great item
⭐Just what I needed
