⭐After this book helped demystify my fear of cloud hosting, I was influenced to move all of my web applications from a shared hosting provider to a cloud based IaaS hosting provider. There is a lot of great insight shared here via explanations and learning exercises!

⭐Das Buch ist viel zu oberflächlich, die Themen werden nur angerissen. Zum Thema Docker gibt es nur 3 Absätze auf nichtmal einer halben Seite. Keine Beispiele dazu,, obwohl dies für das Deployment in der Cloud wohl ein wichtiges Thema ist. Zum Thema den Server aktuell halten ist der einzige Ratschlag “yum update”. Der Beispielcode ist trivial. Zum Einsatz eines Cache steht dort praktisch nur if ($cache->get($variable)) … else mysql… Zudem stellt der Beispielquelltext an manchen Stellen auch ein Sicherheitsproblem dar. So sollen die Zugangsdaten zur Amazon Cloud in den Quelltext hardgecodet werden. Somit hätte jeder, der Zugriff auf die Versionsverwaltung hat die Möglichkeit auf Kosten des Kontobesitzers unmengen an Cloudinstanzen zu starten, die mehrere tausend Euro pro Monat kosten können. Best Practices sehen anders aus. Das Buch ist daher nahezu wertlos. Im Internet gibt es bessere Tutorials, kostenlos.

⭐The book is about scalable web apps on AWS, but talks exclusively about IaaS-based web apps, with explanations about Linux and web server administration… I’m not interested in that. I’m not using AWS for that – I want to leverage all PaaS potential it offers: API gateways, Fargate, RDS, lambdas… otherwise I can just stay with my DC.The title should state that’s IaaS only. Any way to get a refund?
