⭐I have used Michael Sullivan’s textbooks including “Algebra & Trigonometry”, “Precalculus”, “Brief Calculus – An Applied Approach”, “Calculus and Analytic Geometry (second edition),” and now “Calculus Early Transcendentals”. I have always been and remain an unabashed admirer of Michael Sullivan as a teacher and author. He is completely thorough in his explanations at an appropriate level of rigor for the audiences of all his books. His illustrative examples, of which there are plenty for each topic, are very clear and very detailed. The homework examples and problems are totally appropriate for the text on each topic. His writing style is easy to follow and enjoyable to read.Other authors that I would recommend very highly are “Larson and Edwards” and “Thomas and Finney”.For videos go to the www for MIT Open Courseware and watch the videos by Herb Gross and Gilbert Strang.Another excellent set of videos to view are by Professor Nathan Leonard (a great, great, teacher).All of the materials covered by this review are appropriate for those who attend classes or study on their own, as I do.Larry Shapoff

⭐I am a collector of math books. I mostly do this because I like to see how different text compare when teaching difficult topics in Calculus. In my opinion as someone who has ventured through the dreaded Calculus Sequence and survived I have to say that this text is by far the best. When I was taking MAT 230 (that’s Calculus II) I had the hardest time with the “Surface Volumes of Solids at Revolutions;” however, with this text, those problems are but a thing of the past. I really do wish that this book was adopted as the default text in my university but it wasn’t. There is something about the verbiage that Sullivan employs that truly makes Calculus an enjoyable subject. The explanations are thorough and his examples are step by step which says everything about this author as compared with his competition.
