Editorial Reviews: About the Author Joseph Gallian earned his PhD from Notre Dame. In addition to receiving numerous awards for his teaching and exposition, he served, first, as the Second Vice President, and, then, as the President of the MAA. He has served on 40 national committees, chairing ten of them. He has published over 100 articles and authored six books. Numerous articles about his work have appeared in the national news outlets, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Boston Globe, and Newsweek, among many others.

⭐Liked and used this textbook for study.

⭐This book was fairly easy to read. Gallian really enjoys shortening things by saying “clearly …” which is frustrating when it’s not clear, but other than that I really recommend this book!

⭐I think this book is the source for all other abstract algebra texts. The definition and proof are easy to follow. Not a lot of examples, but they make up for it in the exercises.

⭐I used this textbook for an online class. It is probably one of the best textbooks that I have ever used for learning algebra. There were a wide variety of excellent questions and the examples were explained clearly and thoughtfully for a learner. I highly recommend this book.

⭐The book has all the content. The only thing is that the out Side paste is rip, but it work and it does it’s purpose

⭐Exercise 11 of chapter 10 was printed wrong. It combines <(a,0)>and<(0,b)> by external direct product in my book but the answer and a friends book I looked at combines them by internal direct product. I would never have gotten to the correct answer assuming external direct product.Also the solution page A5 is missing and page A4 is printed twice instead.These are only the problems that I have found. Who knows if there are more.

⭐very friendly intro to algebra compared to other brutal texts

⭐Excellent text. I rarely come across books for upper-level math courses that are this well written. Good pacing, consistent level of difficulty between in-chapter examples and homework problems, and nice inclusion of practical applications. Most importantly, EVERY concept is explained very clearly.

⭐Great book!

⭐A great book with interesting ideas. A good book for those who want to know more about abstract algebra.
