    Description

Control Systems Design Guide has helped thousands of engineers to improve machine performance. This fourth edition of the practical guide has been updated with cutting-edge control design scenarios, models and simulations enabling apps from battlebots to solar collectors. This useful reference enhances coverage of practical applications via the inclusion of new control system models, troubleshooting tips, and expanded coverage of complex systems requirements, such as increased speed, precision and remote capabilities, bridging the gap between the complex, math-heavy control theory taught in formal courses, and the efficient implementation required in real industry settings. George Ellis is Director of Technology Planning and Chief Engineer of Servo Systems at Kollmorgen Corporation, a leading provider of motion systems and components for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) around the globe. He has designed an applied motion control systems professionally for over 30 years He has written two well-respected books with Academic Press, Observers in Control Systems and Control System Design Guide, now in its fourth edition. He has contributed articles on the application of controls to numerous magazines, including Machine Design, Control Engineering, Motion Systems Design, Power Control and Intelligent Motion, and Electronic Design News.

About the Author George Ellis has worked in product development for 35 years. He first experienced the concept of continuous improvement two decades ago through the Danaher Corporation, one of the world’s foremost lean thinking companies. Danaher transformed itself in the 1980s, modeling its Danaher Business System (DBS) on the Toyota Production System. Ellis has had numerous leadership roles at Danaher, including Vice President of Global Engineering for X-Rite from 2015 to 2018. In 2019, Ellis joined Envista Holdings Corporation, a new spin-off from Danaher for the dental industry, as Vice President of Innovation. There he spends every day immersed in lean knowledge work, deploying, improving, and sustaining new product development workflows in EBS, Envista’s brand of lean knowledge. He also wrote Project Management for Product Development, Control System Design Guide (4th edition), and Observers in Control Systems, all from Elsevier. Read more

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐This is a very good book on designing control systems. It really puts context to theory that’s presented in a college 2-semester controls course series. The author helps hone-in concepts in an intuitive manner, with realtively little mathematics. I’ve found this to be especially helpful for understanding. Also, the use of Visual ModelQ is a great learning tool, too. I like this book, too, because it has problems in the end of each chapter the reader may practice. One especially gains an excellent, intuitive view of PID, and its derivatives, control. This book, coupled with his book on observers in control systems and Norman Nise’s ‘Control Systems Engineering’ text will bring full, complete understanding to control systems. I highly recommend this book if you’re a student or practicing controls engineer. As a student, it will augment your understanding of controls much more than a thick text and hours of lecture.

⭐Most undergrads get taste of the theoretical side of Control Theory, but none of the practical info and practice to step up and start really solving day-to-day controls issues. This book provides that missing link. Highly recommended.

⭐This book is one of the best and most useful control system books that I have, I am using it all the time and it’s very practical and very helpful. If you want to review your control system’s knowledge, this book a very good help.

⭐This book is a comprehensive one full of usefull and practical technical details and applications. Nice and good work and Thanks!

⭐I’d like to take this opportunity to express my exhilarating feeling for purchasing this book.First off the delivery was perfect on time and the package arrived safe with no scratch or torn page .I am intended to provide an extensive review on every chapter of this book and the way how George Ellis wrote and edited this book but definitely it worth noting that this book is masterpiece for anyone seeking simple and detailed information in relation to control system design. the Author took strong grip in building a dedicated software for the sake of further demonstration and simulation for the reader and control system application engineers of the control system without the use of complicated software. A practical guide was provided for the PID designers and examples along with questions and answers were included in all chapters to keep the reader interested. Some minutiae were observed and for sure will be sent on to the publisher shortly. I apologize to upload my review now as I purchased the book late in the last quarter of 2021, since then I was busy with my business and reading this wonderful book.

⭐A very practical guide to tuing PID controllers. The author as written his own simulation software and uses it throughout the book to provide the reader with examples of how different configurations and parameters change the performance of a controller. The reader can install the simulation software and experiment themselves with the examples in the book, but this is not required to get a good understanding of the principles as the author provides plots to show the effect of changes made to each control loop.Highly recommended for anyone interested in developing his or her intuition for control system design.

⭐The book is very interesting but unfortunately came with printing problems, it was missing chapter 8…I tried to get a feedback about this problem but I got no answer, so I don’t know if this problem was only in my book or if it was in the complete edition..
