Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐Timothy Parker is the senior crossword puzzle editor for USA Today Crosswords and from his clues and vocabulary I believe he designed a number of the other crossword puzzle books on the market. The puzzles are in large print and easy to read. The first chapter gives hints on how to solve crossword puzzles which helps if you are just beginning to work crosswords. Sections go from “easy”, to “tricky”, then “tough” and the last section is labeled “treacherous”. I found that even the easy puzzles provide a challenge for the intermediate puzzle solver–you will have to think in order to solve the puzzles. Caveat: if you routinely work the crossword puzzles in The New York Times or L.A. Times you are too advanced for this puzzle book. The answers to the puzzles are found in the back of the book and are arranged in the same order as they are found in the book.Like all of the puzzle-designers there is frequently a play on words that cause you to groan when you realize the correct answer for the clue and he does have some favorite clues and answers. This book has caused me to go on-line to a crossword puzzle site for help in some rather obscure trivia but that merely increases your knowledge base and helps later in other puzzles.I believe that some of these puzzles were originally published years ago. As a senior I can relate to his frame of reference most of the time and understand the clues (e.g. the clue might be “a Turner in the movies” and the answer is “Lana” or the clue may be a line from a song in the 1960s.) A younger puzzle editor who uses current pop culture references exclusively would be very frustrating and not as enjoyable for me.I do wish that the publisher had used spiral binding which allows you to turn the book over onto itself and makes it easier to handle. The book is large, 8″ x 10″ x 1″ and contains 150 puzzles. My puzzle-buddy and I are enjoying this book and I recommend it for seniors trying to find another book of crossword puzzles that are fun, challenging and enjoyable. Anything that keeps the brain from atrophying from disuse is a very good thing–crosswords are very helpful in this regard! Enjoy!
⭐The printined on the puzzles was to light, blurry. Still doable but would have thought that would be a priority.
⭐Gpod selection.
⭐This was a super book, with all levels of difficulty included. Some of the clues were a bit far-fetched, but that would be my only criticism.
⭐really enjoying
⭐I love Timothy Parker Universal Crosswords. Hope to see more published daily soon.
⭐Very helpful
⭐Ordered this for my 75 year old mother and she loves it! Was familiar with Remanisance Magazine crossword puzzles which rely on trivia in the past. This was a perfect gift for her
