Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I bought this as soon as we had our first puppy (a mini dachshund) picked out. Thank God that I did. It was our first time having a puppy and this beginner’s guide allowed me and my wife to know what we were in for and also helped us understand our pup’s instincts and natural born habits. I am thankful that I had it from the beginning because I think it influenced my puppy training. Our “pup” is now almost 3 years old, perfectly potty trained, and as loving as can be!

⭐Dachshunds are Different. I should have realized as I know much about human spine care – that going down a stair or jumping off a piece of furniture is worse for their backs than jumping or going up stairs. I have not yet acquired my dog – and I love to “plan” – so I am making some ramps for the stairs and getting pet “stairs” (combined cat scratching post) – for the furniture. I have not yet found “pet ramps for furniture” – but I think this is fun! Probably treats and things will “encourage” my puppy to use the ramps.

⭐Focused on readers still deciding whether to get a Dachshund or not. If you already have one there isn’t enough new information explaining particular quirks of the breed, like their rolling whale eyes, or their picky eating habits. But it does have lots of info on how to take care of a dog in general. So if you own a Dachshund and are trying to understand him/her better, this book is not what you are looking for. It even seems like the author doesn’t own a Dachshund herself.

⭐I enjoyed the organization and structure of the book, broad range of the most important information for any Dachshund owner. A must have as it makes for a great resource book.

⭐Generally speaking the information is rather helpful from first time dachshund owners who has not done much research on the breed. Great for those considering adopting a Dachshund. However, since I have a couple of more books that specifically talks about Dachshund, this one seems to be more generalised – only 20 pages worth of information is useful to my situation. It is a nice addition to my existing Dachshund collection, but I would not say that it is the definite guide to dachshund.

⭐This book gave a lot of valuable information. Adopted Buddy at one year old. Had been abandoned in an apartment complex parking lot. Now 11. AGAIN, this book would have been rated, I am pretty sure at time of purchase.

⭐My extended family owns a grand total of 7 adorably long and personality-laden dachshunds. This book does a great job at explaining their quirks and needs from a breed standpoint as well as tips that are good for any dog owner to know. The layout and format of this book is very simple and straight forward, making the reading experience as easy as possible. I would highly recommend this book for both dachshund beginners and long time owners of the cutest longdog breed out there!

⭐I’ve already had one dachshund and raised her without the benefit of this book. Sadly, she passed a few months ago and, in a fit of grief fed anxiety, I decided to face my haunting questions by acknowledging that I do not know it all. Now I know that I will never know it all but what I do know now is already paying off. Instead of a strained “no” based relationship with my new puppy, we already have a relaxed “you good boy!!!” based relationship. He arrived after a 12 hour journey yesterday and after a few sessions of ignoring unwanted behaviour and praising wanted behaviour to the skies, he is trotting happily with me on the lead, he comes when I call (mostly), is happy to be groomed, comfortable in the house and slept pretty much all night on the first night. If you’re not the one with short furry legs and a gorgeous long nose and ears in your household, you need to read this book. Besides, it’s a great read just for the pleasure of reading it.

⭐As part of the ‘For Dummies’ books, it covers all aspects of dog ownership, but feels like the information has just been collated from numerous other reference books. This book doesn’t feel that the book has been written by a Dachshund enthusiast. If you just want the facts about dachshunds, then this book will deliver. However, if you want all the facts but would like to know the book was written by an expert, go for The Dachshund Best of Breed by Ian Seath, this book has everything you need to know with wonderful glossy photos and is far more engaging to read. Also Dachshund for Dummies makes reference to all the American clubs, whereas The Dachshund Best of Breed gives all information on UK breed clubs.

⭐I’ve bought a few ‘Dummies’ books before and they vary. In this case, I didn’t find the book a help at all. The writer would say, ‘Well you could do this, but then again, many people do that’ and didn’t really come down off the fence. For example, SHOULD YOUR DOG BE ALLOWED TO GO UP AND DOWN STAIRS? Answer: MAKE UP YOUR OWN MIND. I couldn’t detect the voice of personal experience and my husband and I immediately bought a more authoritative book on the subject.

⭐An excellent book for beginners to experienced dachshund owners

⭐I bought it as used and the condition was perfect , the book is super good with loads of tips for who want to own a doxie

    ⭐Perfect pressey for my friend
