User’s Reviews
Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐Book is a good telling of the history of this woman as well as an abbreviated history of the empire. For people looking to read more about a figure they appreciate this book will be good and it could also be used to immerse someone new to the topic!
⭐This book is worth reading to acquire insight and knowledge about Eleanor of Aquitaine, a formidable woman of the Middle Ages. I enjoyed reading it and will keep it for reference. Recommended reading for those interested in the history of this period.
⭐It was described as a hardcover but I received a paperback
⭐Not a real fan of reading history. The writing style was dry. Skipped through rather than reading cover to cover. Probably well-researched, though.
⭐Very,very interesting queen
⭐I have yet to read a book on Eleanor that I did not find interesting. She is quite a character. My recommendation is to start out by watching the film, Lion In Winter, and then graduating to books on the subject. This one would be a good place to begin.
⭐Desmond Seward, author of several critically-acclaimed historical studies of England and English leaders (as well as others), brings his eye for detail and capacity for capturing complexity to his detailed yet delightful study of Eleanor of Aquitaine, wife of first Louis VII of France and then Henry II of England. As described in the jacket, Eleanor was “worshipped by men, loved by her children, and idealised in the songs of the troubadors.” With her husband Henry II, and then succeeding him, she brought a new level of culture, together with peace and political stability, to an England that had slipped into near-barbaric conditions. She, along with many other great English queens, deserved to be studied for their lessons to modern women today; a complex combination of feminine and masculine strengths. She is cited in “Unveiling: The Inner Journey” as an example of a woman who has integrated her fascinating, playful aspects with her firm discernment and ability to rule.Alianna J. ⭐This is not the best biography of Eleanor with its plethora of speculation and opinion, as well as, pseudo-psychology of mother/son relationships and homosexuality. An okay enough biography if for some reason you cannot acquire another, but I wouldn’t advise this as a first or best choice. Does not equal Seward’s history on the One Hundred Years War or his biography of Marie Antoinette, which I do recommend.
