Description

This text is an unbound, binder-ready edition.Elementary Linear Algebra 11th edition gives an elementary treatment of linear algebra that is suitable for a first course for undergraduate students. The aim is to present the fundamentals of linear algebra in the clearest possible way; pedagogy is the main consideration. Calculus is not a prerequisite, but there are clearly labeled exercises and examples (which can be omitted without loss of continuity) for students who have studied calculus.

Editorial Reviews: From the Inside Flap Some Things Are Just Better New From the Back Cover Some Things Are Just Better New About the Author Howard Anton obtained his B.A. from Lehigh University, his M.A. from the University of Illinois, and his Ph.D. from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, all in mathematics. He worked in the manned space program at Cape Canaveral in the early 1960’s. In 1968 he became a research professor of mathematics at Drexel University in Philadelphia, where he taught and did mathematical research for 15 years. In 1983 he left Drexel as a Professor Emeritus of Mathematics to become a full-time writer of mathematical textbooks. There are now more than 150 versions of his books in print, including translations into Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Hebrew, Italian, and Indonesian. He was awarded a Textbook Excellence Award in 1994 by the Textbook Authors Association, and in 2011 that organization awarded his Elementary Linear Algebra text its McGuffey Award. Dr. Anton has been President of the EPADEL section of the Mathematical Association America, served on the Board of Governors of that organization, and guided the creation of its Student Chapters. For relaxation, Dr. Anton enjoys traveling and photography. Read more

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐Spine slightly damaged. I’ve had to glue it back together three times.Difficult to read. It’s not an absolute disaster, but the content feels like it was written for mathematicians or people already familiar with linear algebra. Especially in later chapters. Although it doesn’t feel like it was written for the average learner, there are some great connections and insights to be found.

⭐Howard Anton is a great author on mathematics books. The content is very good – as usual. But, the book was described in “good” condition as a used book. It was far less than good. Binding is pretty weak, but okay. Pages toward the back are very crumpled – including every single page of the index at the back of the book. The condition of the book was far less than advertised.

⭐This book sucks.Condition of Rental: I received this rental in dismal condition, with worn pages that were separating from the hard cover of the book. Little did I know it would only get worse from there. Now, half of the pages have separated entirely from the spine of the hardcover and from the binding of the remaining pages, and I am left with two “books” to try and keep together by the end of my rental term. I will likely have to pay full-price for this book based on damage that someone else did (and the natural consequence of it over time), so I am considering not even returning the book despite not having any use for it after this semester. That brings me to the quality of the book…Book Quality: This part doesn’t matter as much since if you are a student, you are bound to the mercy of your professors and your deans, but let me reassure you that this book’s quality sucks about as much as its arriving condition did. I consider myself to be of average intelligence, but trying to parse through the convoluted explanations of the author was an exercise in futility and I often found myself relying more on YouTube videos, Slader solutions (which suck btw.), class lectures, and my professor’s office hours than anything else this book could ever offer me.So…good luck, fellow student. May the determinants be with you. This book actually deserves one star, but it gets one extra star because I can imagine writing a textbook isn’t easy.

⭐Stay away from this textbook. Anton does not know to how present Linear Algebra in clear and understandable way for introductory students. If you’re using this textbook because it’s assigned to you by the professor, bed your professor to explain everything Anton doesn’t bother. Also tell your professor to be willing to go over homework problems since Anton writes some of the most poorly worded, difficult to interpret, problems I’ve ever seen in my life. The amazing thing is that this book has gone through 11 editions and still this terrible at explaining Linear Algebra. You are going to need the solutions manual to help you navigate through this book. At time, the solutions manual will do a better job explaining what is going on than Anton.

⭐Great book for my linear algebra class I took

⭐New and delivered quickly

⭐This was the book for my first University class, and I loved it. It was nice being able to carry around a chapter at a time in my binder with this copy.

⭐Item arrived within time window, item condition was as described by the seller.Seller was responsive to questions and shipped the item promptly. Will buy again from them

⭐used book was not at all in a “like new” condition. severely over-rated and inflated pricing for a book that was in “acceptable condition”.

⭐A really good textbook, it was simple enough that I could self-teach myself a lot of the principles it teaches, and the benefit on having a textbook on ebook is that it is searchable for terms and methods that I ran into in later chapters if I was skipping through the book and not covering in the sequence given. A really good explanation and presentation of the concepts, though it is not always clear, but can always be sorted out. The theorems were also laid out very clearly.
