Description

Weiss’s Elementary Statistics, Eighth Edition is the ideal textbook for introductory statistics classes that emphasize statistical reasoning and critical thinking. Comprehensive in its coverage, Weiss’s meticulous style offers careful, detailed explanations to ease the learning process. With more than 2,000 exercises, most using real data, there is a wealth of opportunity for students to apply their knowledge and develop statistical literacy. The text is suitable for a one-semester course. Elementary Statistics, Eighth Edition, contains parallel presentation of critical-value and p-value approaches to hypothesis testing. This unique design allows both the flexibility to concentrate on one approach or the opportunity for greater depth in comparing the two. This edition of Elementary Statistics continues the book’s tradition of being on the cutting edge of statistical pedagogy, technology, and data analysis. It includes hundreds of new and updated exercises with real data from journals, magazines, newspapers, and Web sites. Elementary Statistics, Eighth Edition, takes a data-driven approach with more than 700 data sets documented by several hundred data sources. Datasets and other resources (where applicable) for this book are available here.

Weiss received his Ph.D. from UCLA and subsequently accepted an assistant-professor position at Arizona State University (ASU), where he was ultimately promoted to the rank of full professor. Dr. Weiss has taught statistics, probability, and mathematics—from the freshman level to the advanced graduate level—for more than 30 years. In recognition of his excellence in teaching, he received the Dean’s Quality Teaching Award from the ASU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Dr. Weiss’ comprehensive knowledge and experience ensures that his texts are mathematically and statistically accurate, as well as pedagogically sound. In addition to his numerous research publications, Dr. Weiss is the author of A Course in Probability (Addison-Wesley, 2006). He has also authored or coauthored books in finite mathematics, statistics, and real analysis, and is currently working on a new book on applied regression analysis and the analysis of variance. His texts—well known for their precision, readability, and pedagogical excellence—are used worldwide. Dr. Weiss is a pioneer of the integration of statistical software into textbooks and the classroom, first providing such integration in the book Introductory Statistics (Addison-Wesley, 1982). Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I was very concerned about doing well in Statistics and since it is a neccessary course for my BSN, I coveted at least a ‘B’ grade. I earned an ‘A’ – 92% thanks to the way this textbook is organized. It came with the Pearson MyStat Lab internet access – I believe that contributed in a very large measure to my excellent grades. The book has step by step instructions for working through each type of statistical analysis as it is introduced when coupled with the online practice, quizzes and tests I was able to complete all of my assigned work within the time frames permitted for each lesson. My favorite feature was the ‘Show me an Example’ – if I became stuck trying to solve an equation I clicked on this button the computer would step me through each aspect of a similar problem to the one I was working on and would bring me back to that page when I was finished. If I needed another example the computer would display another (I did that quite a bit). The online lab also had pre- and post-tests to check your retention and comprehension of the lessons. If you don’t have a TI-83/84 Plus calculator you will need to buy one for this course and learn how to use it, the calculations are extremely tedious. The textbook also had ‘technology sections’ – these were basically mini-lessons in how to use the technology of your choice in solving the equations. You can use Excel (just set up the spreadsheets with formulas beforehand), the TI-83/84 Plus or the Pearson Minitab (came with this edition).

⭐I love the detailed examples and charts that explain very complex statistical concepts.

⭐For my class and perfect price I mean come on its stats 2 who wouldn’t be excited to take this class

⭐Though this is a textbook, I keep it because it is very easy to understand and has numerous examples. In conjunction with the MyStatLab, it makes Stats very easy to understand, even if self-taught.

⭐Perfect

⭐Bought this for an online class, the book so far does not explain definitions well. Each section ends with a comprehensive review of questions, but answers for only some of the questions are provided in the back. Had to go online (Wikipedia?!) to find clearer explanations so I could answer the review questions. Can’t beat live classrooms.

⭐The book is really only there for referencing formulas. If you are accessing the Mystatslab website the book already accessible without having to purchase the e-book. You have access to all the major chapter information. Save some money! Overall the book is fine.

⭐Awesome condition, like brand new!! Very happy with my purchase. Everything was new even though it said used. The ages were in perfect condition and the pull out tables were intact! VEERRYYY happy.
