⭐I decided to purchase this book a couple of years ago after I consulted Heath’s commentary on Euclid. I felt that we miss something from Euclid unless we read him in his own expression. I know some ancient Greek and am able to read some Homer and Sophocles. These works of Greek poetry are of sublime beauty and they are the reason for me to learn Greek. I never thought that I will need Greek for mathematics though.But I was wrong. I used to think that Greek mathematics was primitive until I read Euclid in original Greek. For people who had a little knowledge of the language, reading Euclid in Greek is an intellectual epiphany and aesthetic delight. Greek is such a wonderful language for expressing abstract idea. In that sense, it actually surpasses English. It is a shame the language had to fall into disuse. Our mathematics, though far more advance than the Greek’s, has become largely a tool for science and engineering and lacks the beauty that it once possessed. I finally understand that, for the Greek, mathematics (geometry) is not a science. It is an art – a contemplative art in the same vein with their philosophy. For the Greeks, mathematics is about a cultivation of the mind, about beauty and aesthetics. The very idea of education. Usefulness was never their concern.This Greek edition of Elements has large diagrams as well as clear-and-easy to read Greek text. The appendix also provides a very useful glossary of key mathematical terms so it saves you a lot of time from having to consult a Greek lexicon; especially if you are not steep in the language.

⭐Great for learning the original Greek along with the mathematical field of geometry. Since Geometry is something that almost everyone has to take as a course at some time, whether or not he or she likes it, it sometimes is hard to realize that Euclid was the originator of this study and it was done in ancient Greek.I really like the layout of the book and the translators have done a excellent job. Nothing is left out, as one page is totally in Greek and the other page is translated into English so there is no loss of thought. The print is large and readable and each side has exactly the same geometrical forms so there is no mistake as to what is being discussed at any point. Easy for note-taking and highlighting, this has to be the best book for not only improving somebody’s Greek learning but geometry as well.

⭐Well organized for following both the Greek and the English. Large format so most proofs fall on one page and thus appear in their entirety with the associated figure.
