This book introduces functional analysis at an elementary level without assuming any background in real analysis, for example on metric spaces or Lebesgue integration. It focuses on concepts and methods relevant in applied contexts such as variational methods on Hilbert spaces, Neumann series, eigenvalue expansions for compact self-adjoint operators, weak differentiation and Sobolev spaces on intervals, and model applications to differential and integral equations. Beyond that, the final chapters on the uniform boundedness theorem, the open mapping theorem and the Hahn-Banach theorem provide a stepping-stone to more advanced texts. ⭐I haven’t looked this up anywhere, but I’m almost 100% sure this book has been translated (poorly in some areas) from another language. I’m very familiar with linear algebra, and have several books on the subject of LA and FA, but the language in this text is very odd. It is sometimes difficult to read from this text because of this. Just generally very inefficient ways of communicating that distracts from the content of the book.Also a I had not even had the book for two weeks when it started splitting down the center of most often used pages.

⭐Very clear, lots of details and examples. This book is really self contained, you won’t have to keep running to other sources to clarify something you read. If you have already taken an undergrad course on linear algebra and an undergrad course on analysis, the material should be well within your grasp.
