⭐This great book originally published in 1949 stands the test of time. Students and lovers of the word will cherish it. There is simply no book as good. Brooks and Warren wrote a series of books that changed the way we read and led to what was facetiously called New Criticism. There was nothing new about it, and it was no a “school.” They were scholars but wrote with total clarity, simply and directly. I could cite many things about the book that are important but their discussion on metaphor is unequaled anywhere as far as I know. Aristotle comes close but he writing was largely notes for his peripatetic teaching.
