Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I bought the book because I saw SketchUp mentioned several times in woodworking magazines. It seemed like a great way to generate detailed drawings of shop projects, and it is. However, there’s almost no chance that anyone can just download the software and figure out how to get much out of it without some guidance. This book helps a new user get started without the aggravation that just muddling around would produce.Like most other books in the “Dummies” series, this one is very easy to read and use. The information is presented in bite-sized chunks, and each new concept is built on what has preceded it. The tone is just right, I think; it’s light without being condescending or cutsie, and it’s authoritative without being pedantic.I particularly liked the way the author explained how to fix errors. SketchUp is somewhat deceptive; it’s pretty easy to get a sort-of-good result, but it’s also easy to wander into dead ends. The book describes a mistake, then explains how to erase it and what to do to get the result you were looking for. Even better, it explains how to avoid the mistake in the first place. It sounds like an obvious thing for a good instructional book to do, but it’s surprisingly rare.Bottom line: I think I got what I paid for– and more. I wanted a good, basic instructional book, and this is it. However, it’s also a manual that explains how to get beyond the beginner’s level as smoothly as possible. I recommend it very highly.

⭐I’m learning Sketchup so I can use it for a project in a foundation art-design class. I want my students and myself to have a solid grounding in the basics so we can use the program in more expressive ways. This book provides a clearly written, step by step guide for beginning users or for more experienced users who want to improve their skills. There are plenty of simple examples and enough more complex constructions to whet your appetite if you’re interested in going further. It’s like having a very helpful person right at your side who can give you a solid grounding in the basics. I found Sketchup really frustrating when I was just exploring it by myself, because I was bringing too many assumptions from my past drawing experience. This book helped me understand how and why Sketchup works the way it does. It’s helping me to “think” in Sketchup more easily. And for me, I really appreciate having a written text so that I can try things on the screen and then be able to easily check the text for tips or further instructions. It’s just less stressful than having to constantly pause a video. Plus, having page references is an easier way to refresh my memory than searching for an online tutorial and then finding the right section.I’m going to recommend it to my students.

⭐Google Shetchup 7 for Dummies by Aidan Chopra is a good choice for all Sketchup users. I have been using Sketchup for several years. I am an Industrial Arts teacher and have been using various CAD programs for over 20 years. Sketchup is one of my favorite programs, but there were always things I could not figure out from the help screens or you tube videos. Chopra to the rescue! His writing is clear and concise, examples and illustrations are easy to follow. Every night I tackle another section, and I am finally feeling like I can use Sketchup to do what I want. I find myself coming home with an idea in my head, and I can draw it and see it in Sketchup faster than if I drew it with pencil and paper.

⭐An excellent introduction to SketchUp. I learned a great deal from this book and it was easy and enjoyable to read. The author has a pleasing, informative style. However, DON’T buy the Kindle edition. The figures and graphics are worthless in the Kindle display. I have no idea what he was trying to communicate in the figures … I can’t see them at all. This book will make you hate your Kindle, and usually I like mine.Anyway, for the 2 extra bucks, buy the paperback version. This problem is neither the author’s nor the publisher’s fault. Amazon should know better than to publish a book like this in Kindle format!

⭐This book is great. I have used SketchUp for three years, but bought this book to get a new perspective. Whether you are a new user of experienced, this book will help you. I hope the author will work on a separate book specifically for SketchUp Pro. Funny, easy to read, packed with useful tips.

⭐Good book. Just wish someone would come out with just a book for building cabinets and entertainment centers. Probably more people doing small projects than building houses. HEY, there is a market out there for somebody that can write these books.

⭐Did not down load the software yet.

⭐When I get to that point where I’m convinced that there has to be a better/quicker way to sketch something, I grab my copy of this book and get a few more tips. Well worth the $$$ to have it around. Thanks to this book i’ve became much more efficient at sketching things up, which helps clear up a lot of issues either from concepts to production.Dan…

⭐I would have preferred an extra chapter at the beginning on just explaining the SKETCHUP screen and the icons etc. If you are a self employed person, you dont have time to spend learning about this, when you want to be making money. so I do a rough design on paper and then do a design on sketchup. I found this saves me time.As a cabinet maker, I think you just need to get the customers requirements as to size, colour and style of a piece and go from there. I am not a computer nerd and prefer to build rather than learn about how to work on a computer

⭐Ordered this book by mistake as I already had it on my shelf, but it would cost me more to send it back than I paid for it.

⭐I liked this book because it took me through the basics with examples that were easy to follow. Many link to Youtube videos of how to do it. I have modelled my own house to scale and the book has covered almost everything clearly. As an irregular user of this software I find the book easy to use as a reference.

⭐Sketchup for Dummies is the perfect way to learn how to use the softwareThere are also excellent video tutorials by the author on you tube

⭐It is so bloody complicated and has so many controls which require ‘Hold down Shift’ – ‘Hold down option’ –‘Hold down alt’ etc that my old brain cannot cope.. This is one for the young.
