⭐Though this book has been out of print for some time, it offers the quickest entry to algebraic topology for those with only a background in math analysis. The concentration here is simplicial homology. The structure theorem for finitely generated abelian groups(modules) which is used in calculating Betti numbers is derived by matrix means in an appendix. All the necessary general topology is done in the first part making the book self-contained. The only other in print book which proves the structure theorem by matrix means is Munkres’s “Elements of Algebraic Topology”, though here previous knowledge of general topology is assumed. As an aside S.S.Cairns proved the first triangulation theorem for differential manifolds-a proof is given in Munkres’s text on differential topology-Small World! Worth having if you can get it.

⭐Cairns’s Introductory Topology is a good introductory text. The copy I got was an ex library book. Perfect for my use despite a few knocks and library plates. Thank you.
