Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐The information in this book is well written and relatively easy to understand for someone who has some exposure to networking issues and concepts, and it will definitely advance your understanding of the JunOS operating system. But it is NOT for beginners in Networking, and obviously not intended for students and newcomers to Juniper who want to study and pass the official certification exam. The information is all there, but presented in a seemingly disjointed, “pizza with everything” feel to it instead of having a logical progression to the complexity and details presented. (This is probably due to the collaborating authors on the later editions, who probably changed the focus and scope of the material somewhat as they expanded it).For instance, Chapter 4 should have been moved to the back of the book, as should some of the deployment details and hardware descriptions of the various Juniper devices available scattered throughout the first half of the book. Also the material on the SRX Gateway Services models is very hard to get if you aren’t already up on Firewalls and should have been nearer the back instead of dragging you to a halt. There also seems to be a lack of focus and detail in the important subject of firewalls and route filters (at least to me), at least until you get to the chapters on Class Of Service. You will probably be glad you got this book, but if you are a relative newcomer to networking and don’t have a lot of Cisco background to build on, you should start out with the “Junos Day 1” books and some material on subnetting before you pick up this one as a supplement.

⭐Not a bad Dummies book for those first starting with Junos OS. I really enjoyed this book with hands on (3) EX 4550 Layer 3 switches. This book really helped me getting started with concepts in juniper and I lab’d up with all the configs in the book on live gear. I would highly recommend this for anyone who is just starting in Juniper and wants to get the bells and whistles behind it. I have always been a big cisco guy, but Juniper is really cool software/hardware to learn. I’m hooked! I am loving the Juniper World. Give it a shot! You want be sorry. I promise.PS- Also the day 1 books from juniper are really good too and Junos Cookbook.

⭐I am a “network guy”. And I have been working with routers and switches for more than 20 years.TCP/IP, sure, but AppleTalk, NetWare, Banyan Vines, DECnet and more as well. This book helped me understand JUNOS and the Juniper Systems architecture, terminology, and syntax. The simple, clear explanations, the examples and the graphics helped me prepare for the Juniper Systems exams. And I passed the JNCIA-Junos and JNCIS-ENT exams on my first attempts with scores of 90+.Let me clarify though, these were only PART of my study resources.

⭐Don’t depend on this book for much more than an intro to Junos. It’s all over the place, and with some things not explained further than “this command placed here with this syntax, does this”. Sometimes I was left with the thought, “what does this term mean”, and intense web searching, including Juniper’s website, did not define the term. I’m a Cisco guy stepping into a network refresh from Cisco to Juniper. Yes, this did give me a descent foundation to move on to something more in-depth. I’m moving on to O’Reilly Media’s: Junos Enterprise Switching then Junos Enterprise Routing: A Practical Guide to Junos Routing.

⭐I like the dummies books to get familiar with IT subjects and to let me know if I can go further in the subject. This one is a bit inconsistent in explaining the demonstrations. As in, the screenshots, etc have gone a little further than the explanation or don’t quite match the explanation and then they’re done talking about it and don’t explain the difference. It’s not a deal breaker, I can work with it but some people probably won’t be able to.

    ⭐use it for reference

⭐Simple format, simple language. Slow pace of introduction, assumes some basic computer/network knowledge on the part of the reader. If your boss just dropped a router on your desk and said put this in, this will save you.

⭐Is a good book it met my expectations im new to juniper, normally what i will use is cisco and hp

⭐I recently branched out from working with Cisco networking equipment to Juniper network equipment and this book proved very useful. Don’t be fooled by the for Dummies in the title, it assumes you’re already a Cisco network engineer so will get you upto a reasonable level of Juniper knowledge quite quickly. It also proved a useful resource whilst studying for the entry level Juniper JNCIA-JunOS certification.

⭐Coming from a quite technical Cisco background I only needed a quick guide to get up to speed with Juniper products. This book helped point me in the right direction.

⭐Great book to have handy when configuring, monitoring, or troubleshooting Juniper networks. Full of useful tips and config examples. Good price, highly recommend it.

    ⭐it lacks j-web instructions

⭐Gut erklärt und schön zum nachlesen einfacher konfigurationen auf einem Juniper Router oder switch.Es ersetzt nicht das 1000 Seite Fachbuch von oreily
