Description

In no other work does Franz Kafka reveal himself as in Letters to Milena, which begins as a business correspondence but soon develops into a passionate but doomed epistolary love affair. Kafka’s Czech translator, Milena Jesenska, was a gifted and charismatic twenty-three-year-old who was uniquely able to recognize Kafka’s complex genius and his even more complex character. For the thirty-six-year-old Kafka, she was “a living fire, such as I have never seen.” It was to Milena that he revealed his most intimate self and, eventually, entrusted his diaries for safekeeping.”The voice of Kafka in Letters to Milena is more personal, more pure, and more painful than in his fiction: a testimony to human existence and to our eternal wait for the impossible. A marvelous new edition of a classic text.”—Jan Kott

⭐Make sure you order a month in advance so you make sure it comes in time. The date I was given was not accurate. Other than that the product is great.

⭐Love this classic book!!!

⭐Lovely love story.

⭐Great book!

⭐Must buy

⭐Kafka, with his tortured, difficult relationship with women, was perfectly suited to letter writing. Milena, his translator, became the perfect projection; physically distant, married and unobtainable, but clever, soulful and romantic. The correspondence starts formally, properly, mannered and objective (we only have his letters to her), musings on his health (a constant fixation), being Jewish, his poor self view of his own writing, and gradually grows into one of the most passionate, daring, dreamy and mystical of literary crushes. He probably wrote better than he would have spoken in person to his beloved Milena, but that’s surely what writing is for. Essential reading for anyone who has ever loved someone from a distance, and surely that’s everyone.

⭐So much to learn from this book.

⭐Nice book

⭐Wonderful book
