Although these various professions may sound scattered, they in fact reinforce one another by allowing her to see what people are doing with Linux in the real world and where they need help. In the past, she has been the Linux Games editor for the Linux Journal, the Desktop editor for LinuxToday.com, and has written and held positions with a number of other Linux and technology publications such as Computer Power User magazine. She has also written numerous books about Linux. Today, she is the SplunkBase Knowledge Manager for Splunk (www.splunk.com), an IT search company. It is her job to build a community around SplunkBase (www.splunkbase.com) that fills this IT troubleshooting resource with world-class content. Richard Blum has worked in the IT industry for more than 20 years as a network and systems administrator. During that time, he’s had the opportunity to work with lots of different computer products, including Windows, Netware, Cisco, Avaya, different flavors of UNIX, and of course, Linux. Over the years, he’s also volunteered for several non-profit organizations to help support small networks that had little financial support. Rich is the author of several Linux-based books for total Linux geeks, and a couple of Windows-based books for programmers.

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I read a lot of bad reviews of this book because it was ‘hard’ to understand or because it was focused only in Fedora, well I find it very clear and somewhat geeky, if not the whole book, but…that’s what Linux’s about, at least for me. If I wanted an easy OS I’d go with windows, but I’ve been with MS for way too much time, and I’m feeling like giving a chance (one of many other chances in the past) to Linux. I got this book for like…$5, so I can’t actually complain. and basically all Linuxes will have the same core, maybe not, don’t really know but I’m sure they’ll have a lot in common. I would wonder why would the author choose Fedora instead of Ubuntu. but I guess that’ll remain unanswered. Again the book was really cheap, and I get to learn Linux, so…it’s pretty good for me. I would recommend it.

⭐I am new to linux and therefore not ashamed of buying a “Dummies” book. But not for my purposes, it is probably useful for someone else. I get more info from watching YouTube tutorials and googling for topics I encounter.Just my opinion.

⭐I got this book to help with understanding Linux. It does help the understanding for the beginner of using Linux as an operating system for your computer.

⭐Simply stunning, this book is not informative at all. If you know how to navigate on a PC, and can read things that appear on your computer screen, you can use Linux. Go out and get a book on the bash terminal and you’ll be much happier. There was actually a section in the book on using firefox on linux, give me a break.

⭐OK book, came on time and it help me solve a problem.

⭐Item exactly as described. Great service. Great price.

⭐This book is almost solely devoted to Fedora. Not all Linux OS are the same. I was very disappointed with the contents of the book.

⭐This is not a general introduction to Linux, it is a general introduction to Fedora – as the other reviewers note.As someone who is very, very well-acquainted and comfortable with Windows, I had a hard time getting past the authors preachy tone. First, when she makes comparisons with Windows (which she does regularly) she is just plain wrong in several circumstances. Second, the whole thing is rah-rah cheerleading for Lunix and Open Sores in general. An introduction to the open source movement is a requirement. It doesn’t need to preach, and that preaching (and smug superiority) doesn’t need to pervade every subsequent page.I checked this book out from the library, whatever I purchase from Amazon for a desktop reference won’t be this.

⭐Condition of this book was excellent for it’s age, very good delivery and well wrapped, I would recommend this book to and Linux users, a little out of date but serves it purpose.

⭐Great book for learning about Linux, easy to follow.

⭐This book, ordered from Watergate books, was three editions out of date – that means the accompanying Linux disk is not one that caters for drivers written in recent years. The advertised edition is 8th. The one I was sent is the 5th edition. The hours wasted trying to get the system to run and to find drivers etc before realizing what was wrong are unbelievable. Amazon is becoming sloppy with how it chooses associates… take care when ordering.
