Description

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Astrophysics for People in a Hurry comes a fascinating guide to the most popular questions about the universe. In Neil de Grasse Tyson’s delightful tour of the galaxies, his fictional character Merlin responds to popular astronomy questions asked by adults and children alike. Merlin, a visitor from Planet Omniscia in the Andromeda Galaxy, has been friends with many of the most important scientific figures of the past, including da Vinci, Magellan, Doppler, Einstein, and Hubble—and he often recounts his conversations with these historical figures in his explanations. Merlin’s illuminating answers feature a unique combination of wit and poetry along with serious science explained in refreshingly clear, reader-friendly language.Dear Merlin: Can a person cross our galaxy in a spaceship during one human lifespan?Merlin: In 1905, Merlin’s good friend Albert Einstein introduced the “Special Theory of Relativity,” which predicts that time will tick slower and slower the faster you travel. Were you to embark on such an adventure you could conceivably age as little as you wish, depending of course, on your exact speed. The problem arises when you return to Earth, which will have moved several hundred thousand years into the future and everyone will have forgotten about you.A timeless book for lovers of the universe by one of its greatest lights.

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐very interesting. Read a question to kids and then had then think of what the answer would be then read the answerGood family education. The children are very interested in space at this point and this encourages them to think and explore their intrest.

⭐The author is a genius, plain & simple. In fact if science has always escaped you then this guy is who you need to be reading. In this book Merlin (Dr. Tyson) answers real questions about things that you may have been wodering about for a long time. He explains the scientific facts behind the answers in a concise, illuminating and entertaining fashion. What would happen if the world suddenly stopped roating? Think about it for a few moments. The answer to this question and many more are in this book. Buy it for you and get a copy for the budding scientist that you know.

⭐If you have a kid who’s interested in astronomy, this is a terrific buy. It’s in a question/answer format, with Merlin answering the questions. Each question/answer is on its own page, and there is no order dependency. This means you can open the book to any page at all and just start reading. It’s fun and informative. As to Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson – what can I say that hasn’t already been said. When it comes to astronomy, Dr. Tyson writes the best stuff I’ve seen for non-scientists, puts in a language we can understand, and adds enough humor to make for a thoroughly enjoyable reading experience.

⭐I love astronomy and any study of the Universe, so this book by my favorite astrophysicist, Dr. Tyson, is exactly what I wanted. The sense of humor and playfulness combined with actual facts is irresistable! So much so that i bought the companion 2nd book, “Just Visiting This Planet”. What better tour guide than the famous (infamous?) wizard of Camelot fame, Merlin! You’ll love this book no matter what age you are (chronologically or otherwise!).

⭐An easy-to-read Q&A book about the universe. Some of the replies have been superceded by more recent discoveries, but that’s part of the beauty of science.

⭐Merlin’s humor can make you smile and while his answers can be illuminating, there is still much that someone not well versed in astronomy or astrophysics may have a hard time grasping. The Glossary of Selected Terms helps; still, most answers are to be studied if real understanding is desired.

⭐For all you science Buffs interested in astronomy, this book is for you

⭐This is a pretty good collection of information about space and physics, but I didn’t realize the questions were taken from a newspaper column that Neil de Grassse Tyson writes for. All of the questions are responded to by “Merlin” a fictional (kind of goofy) character created by Tyson (I assume). I had bought it for my 7-year-old son who is crazy about Tyson and his Cosmos series, but this definitely goes above his head.

⭐Good condition

⭐国内では手に入れることが難しい商品の取り寄せが意外と早かったので満足しています。

⭐天体に関する疑問に、わかりやすく答えてくれます。これを機に宇宙にもっと興味がわくと思います。
