Description

One of the most important chess books ever written, reissued in celebration of a chess genius, Bobby Fischer. The American takes the reader through 60 of his games, describing his thoughts, the intricacies behind his and his opponent’s strategies, the tactical justification of moves and the psychological battle in each one. You”ll find beautifully simple positional play next to out-of-this-world combinations that are just breathtaking. Fischer played nearly all of these games as a grandmaster so they are at the very highest level, but his lucid commentary makes every move and idea both accessible and understandable. Every player will learn huge amounts from this book. It is essential for each chess enthusiast, competitor and professional. The controversial alterations that were made to Bobby Fischer’s words in the last edition have been omitted in this book, so only the author’s own words are expressed, giving a true insight into one of the most gifted, troubled and controversial minds of the 20th century.

⭐Well planned lessons

⭐Great chess book, and a fantastic addition to my other chess books. I really enjoy the commentary and alternative lines that Bobby presents. I have two boards set up, one for the game lines, and one for the alternate lines. I also enjoy using one board to follow the alternate lines in my mind, to work my memory. I love the game of chess, and for any aficionado of the game, this book helps learn from one the very greatest chess players of all time (arguably the greatest of all time, as BF transcended the traditional game, and invented chess 960, and was a true pioneer of the game, long before computers destroyed the mystery of chess).

⭐A long time ago, when I was a teenager learning how to play chess, I owned a paperback copy of “My 60 Memorable Games” by the late chess Grandmaster Bobby Fischer (1943-2008). It was a book I enjoyed tremendously, and from which I learned a great deal. Unfortunately, I lost my copy of this book many years ago.I recently found “My 60 Memorable Games” in a Kindle edition published by Batsford Press. I immediately purchased it. My overall reaction to this Kindle version of Bobby Fischer’s classic book is mostly positive. It contains the same excellent writing by Bobby Fischer. He writes about each of the 60 games he played against various opponents in clear and concise prose that demonstrates the depth of his pure chess genius. He does an excellent job of avoiding jargon, and for the most part, refrains from engaging readers with boring anecdotes about past victories and defeats. The layout for this Kindle edition of “My 60 Memorable Games” is satisfactory. The print is large and set in an easy to read font. Batsford opted to use algebraic rather of English descriptive notation, which makes the book much easier to use.My only complaint is one that I have for most Kindle versions of chess books: the low quality of the chess diagrams. The relatively few diagrams that appear in “My 60 Memorable Games” look like they were copied directly from a newspaper. They are small, blurry, and nearly impossible for my 60-plus year old eyes to decipher.Despite this significant flaw, I have spent many hours reviewing the games that Bobby Fischer has chosen to include in “My 60 Memorable Games,” and I have learned a lot from them. “My 60 Memorable Games” remains an entertaining, informative, and essential tool for any chess player. Recommended.

⭐Bobby Fischer’s ‘My 60 Memorable Games’ is a classic that is finally updated into our modern figurine notation with no other changes made from the original version (save the one useful change the above reviewer noted). It was one of my first read chess books and the notes are the best example of a very-strong grandmaster (who later became world champion) of just enough detail and variations all taken out of his own thoughts. It should not be overlooked that an added and very important ingredient of this books readability is Grandmaster Larry Evan’s insightful introductions to each game which helps set the stage for Fischer’s own take on what actually happened thereon. For this reason it definitely ranks as one of the very best (and usefully instructive) chess books of its time. I would put some of Botvinnik’s, Bronstein’s and especially Tal’s ‘Life and Games’ chess books in the same category of greatness. This being said, technology has very-much changed the way that chess is presented and studied by most everyone. (There being software, videos and now streaming media). For young people studying the game today I see this as an early book (much like reading collections by Alekhine, Cabablanca, Nimzovich, and Reti), for you to read on your path to educating yourself towards becoming a better and better player! I hope this doesn’t come off as a disparagement of Bobby Fischer’s great work in any way – It is simply that there is now more than ever a huge variety of chess products to choose from, a good percentage of which is also great and worthy of the chess buyer’s consideration.Lawrence TamarkinUSCF Life Master

⭐Very instructive, even amusing at times. His analyses of possible lines are impossible to follow without playing them out on the board, at least for mortals like me. Can he really see that far ahead? I guess a world champion can. The position is shown fairly often, so it’s easy enough to keep up while playing through the games, and it’s fun to think, “What would I do?” We even agree, once in a while. I prefer the notation for the moves in Alekhine’s book, where they used capital letters for the pieces instead of the little pictures, which don’t show up very well on my old Kindle, but are fine on my Samsung phone. A very good book for the chess student or fan.

⭐I do own another Bobby Fischer book – it’s the book that helped me progress the most and in a very short time – I started seeing things!!!This one is even better, as you can follow (in some measure, we are talking about a genius here!) the thinking behind the games described here. It’s invaluable as I find that it’s not about what happens on the board (and you get in all the books) but it’s about what doesn’t happen on the board and the thinking behind what you finally see on the board. Wonderfull…

⭐I had a translated version in 20th Century which I enjoyed very much. This is part of fond memories of carefree olden days.

⭐Well – this book is of course brilliant and always has been. The most important elements for me are that this book has not been messed with and has all the original text unlike some previous versions – and that it’s in algebraic which I find far more easy to read than descriptive notation.

⭐Excellent read.

⭐A collection of games annotated by the most charismatic chess player of all time. Some of the most interesting games are the ones that Fischer lost, in particular to Tal. A must-have for any chess player.
