⭐Very technical

⭐The book, instead of providing the original texts of Jordanes, Gregory of Tours, Bede and Paul the Deacon, as suggested by the cover and the table of content, provides the questionable and poorly written commentary of Walter Goffart. I want to return the book.

⭐I can not see the above review as being fair to Goffart. I would see this book as more of a “companion” to the authors than a replacement for reading them in the original (or Latin translation). It is clear that it is intended not be be a replacement for them.

⭐This book is a must for anyone studying late-antique or early-medieval Europe. Walter Goffart is a leader in his field.
