    Description

The role that neutrinos have played in the evolution of the Universe is the focus of one of the most fascinating research areas that has stemmed from the interplay between cosmology, astrophysics and particle physics. In this self-contained book, the authors bring together all aspects of the role of neutrinos in cosmology, spanning from leptogenesis to primordial nucleosynthesis, their role in CMB and structure formation, to the problem of their direct detection. The book starts by guiding the reader through aspects of fundamental neutrino physics, such as the standard cosmological model and the statistical mechanics in the expanding Universe, before discussing the history of neutrinos in chronological order from the very early stages until today. This timely book will interest graduate students and researchers in astrophysics, cosmology and particle physics, who work with either a theoretical or experimental focus.

    User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐If you know your neutrinos, and their literature you will be disappointed – this is a regurgitation of the some of the freely available articles by the authors(or authors) on the arxiv.org (astroph). Very little added content over what is available for free.

    ⭐Item came as described.

⭐As a graduate student doing research in cosmology, this book is a great resource written by experts in the field. You will want to have prior background in electroweak theory and basic cosmology to get the most out of it. For me, the highlights are:Chaper 1: Helpful treatment of electroweak processes including tablesof relevant matrix elements and cross sections. Useful to have everything tabulated in one place.Chapter 2: Good overview of statistical mechanics and kinetic theory in an expanding universe.Chapter 4: Excellent discussion of neutrino freeze-out includingapproximate analytical calculation and discussion of the numerical solution of the Boltzmann equation.Ch 5: Gives an overview of cosmological perturbation theory and CMB analysis. It has a mix of theory and discussion to provide intuition into the physical meaning and effect of cosmological parameters. In summary, it is a great resource for researchers and graduate students in neutrino cosmology. Its primary drawback is the substantial background knowledge in particle physics and cosmology that is assumed, but that is to be expected for a book dealing with a field of active research in the intersection of these areas. As someone with moderate background, I found the different chapters to be readable independently so I was able to progress quickly to the most relevant sections to me and skip over areas where my background was insufficient or that were less relevant without a problem.

⭐This is an excellent research monograph referring to latest research article on Neutrino Cosmology. It requires a good background in quantum mechanics and particle physics. I found it difficult to progress through materials without skipping the difficult sections. But I treasure it as a reference for future examination.
