Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I read several articles about this book and some of them were not very favorable. I found this book on amazon.com and at a price I felt was well worth paying just to see if it was any help understanding the Ning network. While I agree it is not the most informational book I have read. I feel it was well worth the money I paid. It has answered several questions about how to get things to work on Ning. For a beginner to Ning I have to say it has helped. I do have one concern and that is that Ning is making quite a few changes to how the site is set up and I wonder how long the items covered in this book will hold true. So far everything I have needed to know has been correct. I hope they will come out with a new version and cover things with a little more clarity. I have some basic HTML experience and have set up a few websites so I had some idea of what was happening but the book wasn’t totally clear as to how to do something in all cases. It was only the past experiences and with the help of the book that I was able to get things working. Ning to me is not the most user friendly setup I have worked with but I do believe they are trying to improve. That is why I believe that the book will have to be rewritten because of the upgrades Ning is making. I still would highly recommend buying the book if you can get it at a price you feel comfortable with because as I said it still works and resolved my problems.

⭐In the past my experiences with the “For Dummies” books have been wasteful—a waste of money and a waste of time. Until now I have found the books to be little more than descriptions of menus and the author’s attempts to be witty. This book, however, by Manny Hernandez is an exception—and outstanding. I have now read the book twice cover to cover. Each time I have learned more. The writing is clear and focused. The author not only knows Ning well but he has clearly thought deeply about when and if features should be used. My copy of the 342 page book is now highlighted and annotated with comments of “good advice”, “try it,” and “most helpful.” The author has done his homework in suggesting both Mac and PC software add-ons that might be useful. Though I have been using Ning for two years, this book greatly expanded my understanding of how to improve what I am doing (making a private Facebook-like entity for alumni). In two words, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.David Simpson, Professor of Psychology

⭐”I bought this book recognizing that it may not be on target for what I needed. I was really interested more in the bigger picture issues about Ning. For example, what is Ning’s role vis-a-vis forums and other social media players like LinkedIn. I was also hoping for insights as to the trade offs of a closed system like Ning vs. open systems like LinkedIn. For example, LinkedIn already has a thriving network, so one would presume it will be a lot easier to get a group going there vs. Ning. Also, I hoped there would be a deeper discussion about paid versus free Ning groups.Instead, this book was really step by step instructions on how to open an account, how to post, etc. I blew through it in about 20 minutes as the advice was pretty obvious – it would be faster for a reasonably savvy Internet user to simply go to the site and play around rather than try to use this book. So, for me, poor purchase. Maybe good for someone that really needs basic help, but would such an Internet novice really even know Ning exists?”

⭐I have never read a “Dummies” book before and wasn’t interested in starting now. However, as Community Manager for several sites running on Ning, I needed a quick way to learn some of the more obscure features and clear up a lot of confusion I had using the platform (Ning’s documentation is sometimes very unclear). As this was the only book about Ning I could find, I reluctantly purchased the book and I am SO thankful I did.The author breaks down Ning’s functionality into organized and easy to read chapters. He gets to the point and cleared things up for me very quickly. Not only does the book cover the nuts and bolts of managing Ning’s nuts and bolts, it delves into the grey areas of community management with tips on how to keep your community lively and sections on promoting your community.I could go on and on about how helpful this book was, but that would take time away from you pressing the “Add to Shopping Cart” button. Go on, press it. You won’t be disappointed.

⭐I have been posting to blogs and networking online for several years now, but I used to think that a person either had to be a web engineering expert or had to pay a techie to create such a site. That was before I found […]. I am amazed at how easy Ning makes creating a site, even for a beginner like me. The basic platform is already in place and Ning does not charge anything to create a free account and site. Ning for Dummies takes the basics of blog posting to a new level. It describes in simple terms how Ning sites can be customized and personalized. It even shows how to track site visits and gives ideas for promoting networks. I recommend this book!

⭐STOP!!! Don’t get this book if you are looking for any help with Ning 3.0!!! Absolutely USELESS.

⭐I am not a programmer, but I can make label edits in HTML, PHP, and CSS files okay. So, when I needed a book to pull together what could be done to customize a Ning network, I ordered this one. It turned out to be little more than a combination of the Help documentation that Ning already provides plus some light discussion of other material readily available on the Web. I returned it to Amazon–a first for me. I later learned that the book’s weakness may not have been the fault of the author; after initially giving its users the capacities to customize various files, Ning has packaged some of the customizations (a good) but then reduced the capacity for further ad hoc customization. This may have forced the Dummies editors to remove deeper material.

⭐Good

⭐Il libro non è fatto male, ma si riferisce a una versione di Ning che è stra-superata quindi risulta assolutamente inutile. Per quanto mi riguarda sono stati soldi buttati.
