Description

Numbers and Proofs’ presents a gentle introduction to the notion of proof to give the reader an understanding of how to decipher others’ proofs as well as construct their own. Useful methods of proof are illustrated in the context of studying problems concerning mainly numbers (real, rational, complex and integers). An indispensable guide to all students of mathematics. Each proof is preceded by a discussion which is intended to show the reader the kind of thoughts they might have before any attempt proof is made. Established proofs which the student is in a better position to follow then follow. Presented in the author’s entertaining and informal style, and written to reflect the changing profile of students entering universities, this book will prove essential reading for all seeking an introduction to the notion of proof as well as giving a definitive guide to the more common forms. Stressing the importance of backing up “truths” found through experimentation, with logically sound and watertight arguments, it provides an ideal bridge to more complex undergraduate maths.

⭐Good

⭐This is an extremely interesting book for people who like math and especially pure maths. It is a great prep book for kids going to study undergrad math.

⭐* PhysicalThe book is printed on b&w quality paper, and a good size of font.* Target audience; A-level, H.N.D. undergraduate, postgraduate? This book is pitched at around A-level, H.N.D.(2). or perhaps first year degree?* What is the best about this book? The book is pitched at a wide – level, with enough information to illuminate the introductory bits of this topic. It covering basic logic, AND, OR and NOT in conditional ‘if’ true or false forms often in words, Mathematical induction, math sets of numbers ( integers, reals , quotients, real and rational numbers, prime numbers, and also complex numbers in a helpful way.The great thing is it assumes little as required prerequisites, it describes enough to help, and not enough to leave you hanging lost. There is also answers and help file supplied at the back of this volume.* SummaryThis is a lovely introductory book, a good starting point in truths and proofs. The price is great too. Its given me confidence to try a deeper book in the same topic area. What’s better than this in a math book?

⭐Excellent print quality like 1960s newspaper. Low resolution font such that it won’t hurt your eyes.Book dimension is much larger than the specification. What a big surprisedThe book is printed in Poland. I can’t help liking the quality of Poland.Amazon service is excellent too to provide guides to teach me how to write only a good review.I hope you can read into my review and feel the happiness of the excellent quality ..

⭐This book is good for readers that do not have too much mathematical background or those who need to brush up on some mathematical ideas of logic and rigorous mathematical thinking. Number Theory is used here only for illustration and because it’s so familiar to all of us.

⭐Super book! Covers the transition ideas from school to Uni with both humour and rigour. Really good for ‘dipping-in’.

⭐Handy for my first year on a maths degree, easier to read and follow than most textbooks I’ve seen so far too. Clear equations and explanations.
