Description

In this thrilling journey into the mysteries of our cosmos, bestselling author Michio Kaku takes us on a dizzying ride to explore black holes and time machines, multidimensional space and, most tantalizing of all, the possibility that parallel universes may lay alongside our own.Kaku skillfully guides us through the latest innovations in string theory and its latest iteration, M-theory, which posits that our universe may be just one in an endless multiverse, a singular bubble floating in a sea of infinite bubble universes. If M-theory is proven correct, we may perhaps finally find answer to the question, “What happened before the big bang?” This is an exciting and unforgettable introduction into the new cutting-edge theories of physics and cosmology from one of the pre-eminent voices in the field.

⭐Kaku is one of my favorite authors for explaining current scientific facts and theories for the layperson. I highly recommend this or any of his books for those interested in widening their horizons, and learning about cosmology. He is very easy to understand and does not require much basic knowledge of the subject.

⭐As those into the hard sciences know we have come a long way in the study of modern day physics and cosmology. What used to be considered science fiction and pseudoscience has become acceptable and valid scientific theories and hypothesis. The last six months I have been reading numerous books on physic, cosmology, time travel and related topics. I just finished this fascinating 436 page soft book (Parallel Worlds: The science of alternative universes and our future in the cosmos by Michio Kaku) and found it to be a delightful read.I had read sever previous books by this author so I was familiar with his work. This book explains in great detail the most recent developments in physics and cosmological theories. This easy to read book is organized into three parts:The first part (The Universe) covers baby pictures of the universe, the paradoxical universe, the big bang, and inflation and parallel universes. The second part (The multiverse) explores dimensional portals and time travel, parallel Quantum Universes, M-Theory, a designer universe, and searching for echoes from the eleventh dimension. The final part (Escape into hyperspace) focuses on the end of everything, escaping the universe and beyond the multiverse. If cosmology, physics and other universes fascinates you this is a book you should check out.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Tactical Principles of the most effective Combative Systems).

⭐I have not yet read this book, but I look forward to doing so soon. I have enjoyed all the books from Michio Kaku.

⭐Responde muchas preguntas que nos hacemos y nos hace vislumbrar el futuro que nos depara. Igual todo sigue siendo una gran incógnita pero ya sabemos algo más sobre el tema

⭐The Secret of EXISTANCE is the ultimate question that has inundated humanity since the beginning, be it philosophers, scientists, mathematicians, theologians or the common individual trying to survive and questioning what is it all about? It’s fascinating that regardless of how we approach this question; the Journey becomes more valuable than the elusive final answer as we discover more and more about our place in the Universe. This book brings the many pivotal scientific discoveries and theories in the long quest over the years and weave them into a possible interpretation of how and why the Universe happens to be the way it is and possible future events that may impact our existence. String Theory along with a few other possible theoretical explanations of the physical world introduces the concept of Multi-dimensions of existence as a by-product of their mathematical models and interpretations which become the focal point of this book’s Parallel Worlds topic.Like many people I’m extremely intrigued by the possibilities of Parallel Universes, Multi-dimensions, and Hyperspace and most of all where did we come from and where are we going? It’s a nice book, well written and with a bit of general knowledge about the quest for the Theory of Everything it’s an easy and enjoyable read. It does not attempt provide a definite answer to the questions but rather shows a possible interpretations and possible answers. Only time will tell if this is a Scientific Book, or Science Fiction Book. Finally, the author either intentionally or non-intentionally digresses into the inevitable concept of whether there is a Purpose and Intelligences behind the existence of the Universe or is it pure chance and physics. I found the discussions very intriguing as I hope you will.

⭐One of my favorite books. I’m hardly the science-type, but I’ve gotten sucked into Physics (study of matter) as a kind of hobby. Michio Kaku takes his readers on an entertaining yet enlightening tour of string theory. This is the theory that the smallest material particle in the universe is not a point in space but a string, and how that string vibrates determines the element. Changing the vibration results in a different element. Dr Kaku is not afraid of heretical questions, asking “If the universe is a symphony of strings, then is there a Composer?” In his chapter “A Designer Universe?” he acknowledges the evidence for a Creator and explains his disinclination to believe. Likely Dr Kaku doesn’t know or doesn’t care that the Bible includes stories of, and references to, and promises of parallel worlds.Dr Kaku has self-promoting tendencies, as his critics rightly claim. But his desire to gain an audience enriches his explanatory skills. He has mastered the ability to present scientific theory in a manner unscientific audiences can understand, yet without talking down to us. This is a skill other Physics authors–Lisa Randall “Warped Passages”, Heinerich Pas “The Perfect Wave”–never quite master. (Both books well worth reading.) If you’re a Physics hobbyist like myself, or simply enjoy thinking in new ways, “Parallel Worlds” is a great launch pad into current thinking about reality. ~

⭐This is a truly perspective shattering book.Whilst it may be fourteen years old Kaku remains the authority on string theory and the multiverse.Through string theory and related M theory the author builds a convincing argument for the existence of additional dimensions and alternative universes. Without resorting to formulae Kaku uses cutting edge knowledge to demonstrate that future exploration of the multiverse is not against any law of physics and limited only by our ability to manage and compute with the requisite amount of information. It is postulated future generations using quantum computing and the ability to harness the power of dark energy and matter as well as negative energy will possess the power to escape this universe, provided humanity doesn’t self destruct via climate change or warfare in the mean time. This is a book peppered with references to meaningful science fiction and explores the religious, philosophical and metaphysical consequences of the multiverse.

⭐All the scientific section of the book is most interesting. The author’s speculations about the future of the universe and intelligent civilizations, millions of years from now, are blatantly insane. And his philosophizing about the meaning of life and the universe are purely childish.

⭐It is true that it is difficult to put this book down. You need to know about physics, at least at a GCSE level but if you like dreaming based on reasoning, you will enjoy reading this book. Part of a book contains a lot of information so you reflect and you read it slowly. Towards the end you start dreaming with hope. Few things have developed since this book was written but that is evidence that he does not speculate but explains.

⭐I have just finished the best pop-science book I have ever read (including Balcombe’s “Pleasurable Kingdom” which I found very well-written, perfectly constructed and also deeply touching; a No. 1 until now). The subject of the book is mind-blowing and it is extremely difficult to stay focused on the reading for a length of time, because it inspires and stretches imagination to the limits. I just couldn’t stop picturing things in my head! Certainly, this effect is brought mainly by the information which one could derive from any other book on the subject of the string theory, but Kaku has a great gift of clear, understandable and entertaining writing. And he simply seems to be a great guy, a person delighted in the mysterious beauty of the world(s) who puts a genuine effort in facilitating the knowledge of it to as wide an audience as possible. I did have to consult wikipedia occasionally, but generally the book is very self-contained: the writing is easy on the reader, and the apparatus helps in managing information. The book has one disadvantage: it is full of spoilers! Kaku refers to many sci-fi novels that seem like a lot of fun, so if you don’t know them, you might risk a spoilt pleasure.I have the deepest respect for the Author for the last pages of the book, which send an optimistic message: we are here to learn, discover and make changes for the better. We are, right here and now, in that crucial civilisation stage which requires us to be careful and wise so we can perceive and participate in the universe with more awareness and impact than ever before. If we take the right social and moral standing today, we might be able to understand and enter the worlds previously unseen, become the observers who can truly understand and manage life, matter and intelligence. Is it overly optimistic? Perhaps, but it gives us a great purpose to follow, and it’s nicer to keep going with such in mind instead of living with the vision of desolation and doom.

⭐A highly and easiliy readable book. Having now read 2 or 3 books from Michio Kaku, I must say I am becoming a fan. Also having read quite a lot of popular science books, I must say that Michio Kaku is probably one of the best popularizer at the moment. His light style helps you to grasp complex theories and subjects. He lavishly uses metaphors to make the reader feeling more comfortable. One thing I particularly liked is his talent for summarising clearly and simply most of the historical and current theories. I found even M-theory and string theory relatively well explained.Again, I am fan of the author, but I found this book was lacking a couple more graphs and diagrams. I think his other works like Phyisics of the impossible or Hyperspace had a bit more “graphics”.Also, unfortunately, his works repeats itself a bit. The first third of his books are usually a summary of the main concepts in physics and its history. The same people tend to come back as well as the same particular anecdots.Another negative point would be that Kaku’s enthusiasm is so great that sometimes I feel he wants to put too much in his book. This sometimes result in a very dense loaded with details, theories and facts that can be hard to digest. In other words, the tempo of the book is perhaps slightly too fast.Nevertheless, Kaku’s books are always mind-blowing. Rarely I felt so exited about reading a book or looking toward reading the next batch of chapters. The covers says it all, “impossible to put down” and its quite true.As always with these books, the speculation part (generally the last few chapters) is pure eye openning joy to read. The idea of creating a bubble universe from a table top machine or the injection of all humanity’s knowledge and entity into a baby universe to save ourselves is deeply comforting but also frightening.I also recommends “Hyperspace” which also blew my mind.To conclude, probably one of the best pop science book on physics I have ever read.9/10
