Description
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC), located at CERN, Geneva, Switzerland, is the world’s largest and highest energy and highest intensity particle accelerator. Here is a timely book with several perspectives on the hoped-for discoveries from the LHC.This book provides an overview on the techniques that will be crucial for finding new physics at the LHC, as well as perspectives on the importance and implications of the discoveries. Among the accomplished contributors to this book are leaders and visionaries in the field of particle physics beyond the Standard Model, including two Nobel Laureates (Steven Weinberg and Frank Wilczek), and presumably some future Nobel Laureates, plus top younger theorists and experimenters. With its blend of popular and technical contents, the book will have wide appeal, not only to physical scientists but also to those in related fields.
User’s Reviews
Editorial Reviews: Review … is a timely, heterogeneous offering, with some interesting gems and informative parts … there should be sections of it to interest most readers in the physical sciences. –CERN Courier
Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐I chose this book as a gift for someone who is into Physics. I was primarily looking for something that would provide some insights into the LHC, what its about and how it works. At this level the book was disappointing, I had clearly got the measure of the tome wrong. The book presents itself to an academic audience (probably post graduate) and not really much of an overview for those seeking insight into the LHC. Despite my degree in electronics, I could not see this as an easy read. The this is a deep dive with no introductions for terminology, the clincher was the 2 to 3 pages or references at the end of the chapters which make it look like a collection of papers rather than a book and convinced me it had to go back (unread). If you are an under/post grad physicist the book could be for you. Note though that the book is rather small at 6″x8″ and as a result some of the photo’s and diagrams were difficult to make out. The print quality is excellent and the crisp smooth pages a pleasure to handle (shame its a paperback).
