Description

The Red Queen
In a novel of conspiracy, passion, and coldhearted ambition, number one bestselling author Philippa Gregory has brought to life the story of a proud and determined woman who believes that she alone is destined, by her piety and lineage, to shape the course of history. In The Red Queen, Gregory illuminates the fascinating woman who founded England’s most powerful ruling line, the Tudors: Margaret Beaufort.

The White Queen
Elizabeth Woodville, a woman of extraordinary beauty and ambition, secretly marries the newly crowned boy king of England. While she rises to the demands of her exalted position and fights for the success of her family, her two sons become the central figures in a famous unsolved mystery that has confounded historians for centuries: the lost princes in the Tower of London. Philippa Gregory brings the artistry and intellect of a master writer and storyteller to a new era in history and begins what is sure to be another bestselling classic series.

The Lady of the Rivers
The Lady of the Rivers is #1 New York Times bestselling author Philippa Gregory’s remarkable story of Jacquetta, Duchess of Bedford, a woman who navigated a treacherous path through the battle lines in the Wars of the Roses.

⭐ I’m a big fan of historical fiction an especially enjoy English Royalty. The fact that these books tell the story of the Plantagenet line through the eyes of strong women in history, is a plus indeed. Philippa Gregory is known for her research and rich detail which flows through the three books. I’m impressed with the history and remained interested throughout the series. While the mythology of Melusina was interesting I didn’t feel it added much to the plot line. Very detailed without becoming boring and I felt as if I knew the people at the conclusion. All in all, 3 good reads.

⭐ As a lover of history, I’ve referred many times over the years to my college text “The History of England”. What Philippa Gregory has done is taken the political history of the country and let us see how the people behind it shaped the course of events. I particularly appreciated seeing those events through the eyes of the different women behind the scenes as portrayed in the individual volumes. A number of the conversations between the characters, well supported by the author’s research, were stunning and very memorable. Truly, these volumes brought history to life.

⭐ I always knew about the Princes in the Tower, now I understand what preceded that part of history, how we got to that part, and what really happened to King Richard and how he ended up buried under a parking lot. If you have any common sense, you will understand that much of the speech is made up to explain the characters, the plots and the scenes. The real part you need to get out of this is what really happened to England to make it what it is today.

⭐ I read this for the history aspect to compare to some of the records of geneology of my family. I found it very interesting and enjoyed the book.

⭐ I think she ran out of steam by the end of this trilogy. It’s an interesting study of three women, but the history gets a bit sketchy and I feel that the ‘Red Queen’ is a bit of an artificial construct – maybe she would have been better writing only one book which featured all three women and left out huge chunks of the third title.

⭐ While much of the writing is speculation or pure fiction, it’s still fun to imagine that the situations may have been close to true. The writing is vivid and a joy to read. I stayed up too late, unintentionally, many nights due to these books.

⭐ Love these books and how they speak from a first person narrative. This was my first read of any Philippa Gregory book and I haven’t been disappointed thus far. If you are looking for hardcore historical facts then no but if you enjoy that time period in England, (The War of the Roses/York vs Lancaster, and pre-Tudor) then yes its just a solid good story.

⭐ I just finished all three. Some sleepless nights too enthralled to put down. For the first time in my life (and thousands of books) I am going to re-read all three immediately.

⭐ Good read

⭐ A well-written tale focusing on the women during the War of the Roses. Gregory left me wanting more of the story.
