    User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐Let me begin by saying that if ever there was a tech dummy, it’s me! I recently went through the ordeal of installing MP9 on my computer. On a PC, if you don’t have Windows 7 DON’T DO IT!!!About the book…if you’re getting into Pro Tools, you need to buy this and get ready for a LONG learning curve. The book is set up as a desk reference, it’s written so even I can understand it…I like that the author doesn’t assume that I know anything. Will I become a master Pro Tools engineer? I doubt it, but the limitations are mine, not the fault of this outstanding book.

⭐Not really up to date and it doesn’t address any of the topics I was looking to clarify, such as Beat Detective. Entire sections on how to mix and record and hardware which don’t really have to do with ProTools. I’ve a lot of experience in audio engineering and have a scientific background so they were borderline useless. I wanted info on how to operate ProTools, not audio engineering.

⭐I read through almost 300 pages of this book, and i still didn’t know how to plug in a mic and record a track. Am I stupid? Then a book for dummies should be perfect for me! But this one is too sketchy and too poorly organized. Way too many incidences of “look at Book X, Chapter Y to learn more.” It doesn’t even give page numbers! So you’re in the middle of trying to understand how to do something complicated that you’ve never done before, in a language that’s new to you, and the book sends you off looking for details that you may or may not have remembered from 100 pages ago, without even telling you exactly where to look. To make matters worse, even when you go back and look, in many cases you don’t really get the answer you’re looking for (namely, how do I do a specific basic task in Pro Tools!?!?!)Part of the problem lies with Pro Tools itself, which is too powerful and complicated to be the best choice for most home/project studios. Part of it is the number of different hardware choices available, which complicates instruction somewhat. But really, that shouldn’t matter too too much, because the software is very consistently applied. The main problem is that the book is not really an instructional guide for beginners, or really even a comprehensive reference guide (there are very few screen shots or illustrations, for example, and the ones that exist are in many cases grainy, or not well captioned, or all too often, both). It is a decent explication of what Pro Tools can do; just not necessarily how to do it.One more problem: this book is simply not written from a pragmatic point of view. Too much about how to size track windows and use effects loops, not enough about how to actually plug in a mic, enable it for input, and start recording. No troubleshooting information, either. If you want the right book to get started, try “Pro Tools for Musicians and Songwriters.” It’s slightly out of date (7.0), but lays out basic concepts and instructions in easy to follow exercises. It even provides downloadable loops for use in the exercises.

⭐It is not written in easy to understand language., Pro Tools is a very complex and complicated recording program. Also, this issue did nit cover the version of Pro Tools that I have. It is organized but does noit help the noivice get to problems that they encounter or explain processes in simple language.

⭐This book is for those who are starting using Pro-Tools and recording. There is a section for everything in the recording process, such as mixing and mastering. The book also addresses the common problem for every home studio: acoustics. It tells you what you can do to work around it. Hell, there is even a section that tells you what a mixer is. If you don’t know what a mixer is and want to record, then this book is for you. Very informative and helpful. You can use it as a textbook, or a reference book. All in all, great product.

⭐IF YOUR A TOTAL BRAIN, HAVE TWO YEARS TO READ THE PROCEDURES AND CAN COMPREHEND 40% OF WHAT YOU READ IN THIS BOOK–BY ALL MEANS ONLY THINK ABOUT PURCHASING THIS ONE. GO TO A PRO–SOUND PRODUCTION STUDIO–YOU’LL LEARN MORE SITTING WITH THE SOUND ENGINEER.

⭐Since ProTools didn’t seem to come with any manual other than a DVD of tutorials, this book is the next best thing. It should come bundled with the software & ProTools interface box.I’m a big fan of the “for dummies” books, and this one is no exception.Extremely easy to read and understand. Just how it needs to be!

    ⭐Good book no issues.

⭐if you want to get to grips with this excellent, but complex software, then this book is for YOU, just enough techy stuff with easy “Dummies” explanations, good value for the money

⭐Bought this for my husband to go along with his pro tools program. Too big, too much info to absorb. He gave it up and went back to his older recorder…but this may have something to do with age.
