Description
A Thorough Update of One of the Most Highly Regarded Textbooks on Quantum MechanicsContinuing to offer an exceptionally clear, up-to-date treatment of the subject, Quantum Mechanics, Sixth Edition explains the concepts of quantum mechanics for undergraduate students in physics and related disciplines and provides the foundation necessary for other specialized courses. This sixth edition builds on its highly praised predecessors to make the text even more accessible to a wider audience. It is now divided into five parts that separately cover broad topics suitable for any general course on quantum mechanics.New to the Sixth EditionThree chapters that review prerequisite physics and mathematics, laying out the notation, formalism, and physical basis necessary for the rest of the bookShort descriptions of numerous applications relevant to the physics discussed, giving students a brief look at what quantum mechanics has made possible industrially and scientificallyAdditional end-of-chapter problems with different ranges of difficulty This exemplary text shows students how cutting-edge theoretical topics are applied to a variety of areas, from elementary atomic physics and mathematics to angular momentum and time dependence to relativity and quantum computing. Many examples and exercises illustrate the principles and test students’ understanding.

⭐A very serious book on QM, that goes into details such as the Hermite polynomials for the harmonic oscillator. Not for the faint of heart..Only 20 pages on Bell, entanglement and teleportation.
⭐it is a good item
⭐The main feature of this textbook is that it is a concise presentation of undergraduate quantum mechanics. If you trim away the preliminaries at the beginning and the advanced topics at the end of the book, the core part that a physics undergraduate should know is just more than 200 pages long. Compared with other textbooks at the same level, this book provides a very quick discussion of the topic. If you want to go through undergraduate quantum mechanics in one semester, for example, this book is a pretty nice choice. The downside is that it is not as comprehensive as other textbooks. Basically, it presents the theory and that is nearly it. It does not have a lot of case studies and examples. The worked examples are short. I do not think that the complexity of these examples represents the level of a formal course on quantum mechanics. On the other hand, if all you want is to quickly go through quantum mechanics, then this issue is not a big deal. What I like about this book is that the authors do a pretty good job in the advanced topics at the end of the book. For example, the chapters on relativistic quantum mechanics and quantum information are short, but informative and clearly explained. I believe the authors take some effort in writing the chapter on the various interpretations of quantum mechanics. For example, Griffiths shoves all these miscellaneous discussions as an afterword in his textbook. Alastair put these interesting things nicely together, which many other textbooks tend to touch lightly upon only. The first edition was published in 1980. It is amazing that this book is still actively worked on for nearly 40 years to keep it fresh. I am slightly annoyed by the little typos. After 6 editions, the typos in the core part of the book should have been ironed out.
⭐Sometimes you read a page in one book and think what on earth is all that about and then you look atthe same thing in another book and it all becomes clear and you go back to the first book and find thatit was saying the same thing just in a different set of words. I find this with Rae and Griffiths (and others)One is not better or not as good, just different and to get the most you will benefit from supplementaryreading and fortunately there is a lot of choice out there these days. Just find the style that suits you.But Rae will give a sound foundation to move on to advanced QM.
⭐Made me cry but quantum always makes me cry lol. Actually quite helpful and broken down well
⭐Perfect for my needs
