Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I reviewed the 6th Edition of Resumes for Dummies by Joyce Lain Kennedy on Kindle to evaluate its usefulness as a resource for college students and recent college graduates who are preparing to enter the workforce. The book is designed to teach job seekers to create resumes and search for jobs in today’s job market. In my assessment, the book has benefits and drawbacks for students and recent graduates. The main benefits of this book for college students are the general resume writing information and the general job searching information provided for the new environment of today’s job market. According to the author, the Internet and current technologies such as smartphones and social networking have significantly changed the way job seekers must interact with potential employers. The author provides a wealth of information for finding employment in this new environment that would benefit any job seeker. The author devotes a subsection of the book to specifically address the needs of recent graduates. This area offers specific advice to recent college graduate. For example, the author advises recent graduates who lack direct work experience to “thicken your work experience by including all unpaid positions – internships, special projects, and volunteer jobs.”Another feature of the book that I found to be especially beneficial was its information for job seekers lacking experience outside of their education. While job seekers who gains experience during college are in a much better position than job seekers who do not, those without experience do exist and they need to know how to create a resume that showcases the knowledge they have gained through their education. The author includes an example of a resume written by a job seeker with only education-related experience. The greatest drawback of this book is that only a small portion of the book is devoted to recent graduates. The book focuses mostly on mid-career professionals who are seeking changes.Another drawback of the book is the presumption that the job seeker knows the basics of resume preparation. While the book does review some of the basics of resume writing, the information is obscured within the other topics of the book. Students and recent graduates who need help with the basics of resume writing might have an easier time if they begin with a different resource.A drawback of the Kindle version of this book is that the resume examples are difficult to read. This is a significant drawback because examples are necessary for a resume book. Having the examples helps readers understand the author’s explanations. Also, the examples serve as models job seekers can use to develop ideas when creating their own resumes.Despite drawbacks of the book, I found it to be a beneficial resource for job seekers entering the job market after college. Students and recent college graduates will likely gain an advantage in the job market by follow this author’s advice.

    ⭐Great resume advice

⭐I like the book, it’s helpful in many ways. I particularly like the lists of useful action words and the examples of resumes and cover letters. That’s why I bought it. It goes a little deep into the internet part of job searches but perhaps thats useful for some people.

⭐good quality fast ship big mahalos

⭐Don’t get me wrong, this could be a great book and probably is in hard copy. i love my Kindle but looking at washed out graphics of (guess what?) resumes on a gray background is more than disappointing. It makes no sense when you can’t read what is on the page. I just can’t understand why a book on style and polish of maybe the most important document has such a poor layout with respect to tables, lists and graphics. Come on Amazon, you need to get this right. With 16 shades of grey/black, why not pick one where you can pull the text of the graphics out of the picture. There is nothing more annoying than reading two pages describing a great idea referring to an example and having to imagine what it was you were supposed to see.Come on Amazon try reading the books you sell !Get the more expensive hard copy of this book because this edition is almost unuseable.

⭐After many years at the same company, I’m on the job market and although I’ve been fairly conscientious about keeping my resume up to date, I haven’t really had to test it in the marketplace. A review of the “Resumes for Dummies” book helped me to refine my job descriptions, incorporate more action oriented words and focus on the skills and jobs that are relevant to the type of position that I want to hold in the future.Like all “Dummies” books, this one is presented in a simple easy-to-read, well-organized format with large bulleted headlines and plenty of graphics and examples. Whether you read the whole book, or just refer to specific sections, this book has it all, including resume formats; how to present education, experience, skills, activities, organizations, etc.; good attention-grabbing words; getting rid of deadweight in the resume; going digital and distributing the resume; spin control against potential problems, such as too much or too little experience, gaps in employment, demotions, age, etc.The book is packed with resume tips, and should be one of the first you refer to if you’re starting a new job search or just not sure that your resume is representing you fairly.

⭐As a career counselor, I hear people wondering what is new in resume trends. Are they still necessary? Kennedy, an experienced syndicated columnist and author, has taken the subject of resumes to a higher plane. Yes, they’re still necessary. Using humor to present the somewhat standard material, she takes the reader from objective to experience with a minimum of pain. There are two unusual features in this book. Sample resumes are presented in a before and after format, illustrating subtle points which will enhance the reader’s own focus. And the book ends with a checklist for evaluating your own resume. (Warning: it’s hard to be objective enough to complete the checklist: you may need some help from a friend.)

⭐Not recommend to buy. Online resume looks better for free

⭐i had never had to make a resume up till i moved here to canada so this book helped big time
