Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐Good book that is highly recommended to prep for a stats class (see my Linear Algebra Review for a similar critique). My recommendation is to pre-prep for your stats class a few weeks or more before the class starts. It will give you a huge boost to overcome Pink Flloyds “the mathematical wall” which occurs in the beginning of any science class as it is difficult, in the beginning, to “get things rolling”. Murray Spiegel, unfortunately recently deceased, is a good author & at times a brilliant author worthy of much praise (his vector & tensor analysis book from Schaum’s is fantastic). This book is a good book as I was able to follow it pretty well. Did not get through whole book but it has helped me immensly. For the price you can not go wrong. The book covers much more than a basic beginning statistics class (about half more), thus I recommend buying it as after that class is over you will have something to expand upon your other studies & it may come in handy for advanced work. The book arrived on time & in good (based on 1 seller interaction) shape. If you are taking stats do youself a favor & and read at least about half this book and then you will be prepared for when the real game begins.
⭐I salute, with great joy, the McGraw-Hill initiative for re-publishing this classic of Schaum’s Outline of Theory and Problems in Statistics in a new and revised edition. The late Professor Murray Spiegel -a scholar, who wrote 14 books (!!) on various topics in mathematics-, profoundly marked my college days. I perfectly recall his keen sense of practicality. Vector Analysis and Complex Variables, among Spiegel’s most accomplished endeavours, were (and still are) my bedside books. His pedagogical skills are also present in his Statistics. Professor Larry Stephens (Spiegel’s co-author), who cleverly preserved the backbones of the book, carefully updated the material to allow for the deep technological changes undergone by contemporary societies since the first edition appeared in 1961. With a profusion of problems solved, this fourth edition that includes “…130 new figures, output from five computer software packages representative of the hundreds or perhaps thousands of computer software packages that are in use in statistics…” and a new chapter (Statistical Process Control and Process Capability) is here to stay. I particularly appreciated the pedagogical thread in the presentation of the subject: the authors introduce the essential of statistics in an easy-to-follow, topic-by-topic format. By revising college algebra topics (chapter 1; Variables and Graphs, chapter 6 ; Elementary Probability Theory) students are invited to learn step by step statistical distributions, elementary sampling theory, analysis of variance and the like of a discipline whose fields of application are as vast as the human brain can reach. I liked the book very much indeed.
⭐If you are an undergraduate in a probability and statistics course I think a better selection would be
⭐in conjunction with your textbook. That is a thorough investigation of introductory probability and statistics. This book is for the serious student of statistics that is ready to investigate subjects such as detection and estimation theory, curve fitting, and more. In fact, if you are planning on studying Estimation and Detection Theory on the graduate level, I recommend getting this outline and going through it prior to entering the formal course. It will make a big difference in your comprehension of the subject matter.I keep this book around as a reference and a refresher on subjects I have forgotten. If you already have a basic understanding of statistics and you just want to know more, this makes a great and inexpensive textbook. It is certainly much better than the expensive hardcover texts on the subject that I have run across.
⭐I went back to school in my mid 50’s to earn my MBA. I had been out of school a very long time, and knew I would struggle with Statistics for Business Applications. I bought this book to get a jump start on the class and to use as a quick reference while in the class. It was very helpful and informative.I now use it as a quick guide and management tool.
⭐Thank you Schaum for explaining and filling in the gaps of my university Statistics class. I used this book along with my textbook. Statistics 4th ed picks up where the textbook leaves off. I like how it explained the utilization of EXCEL and MINITAB also. If there is a Business Statistics college course in your future, buy this book. I bought another Schaum’s book previously and I like the clear, concise instruction; the practical questions; and the explained solutions found in Schaum’s books. Great value!
⭐Whether you are in senior years of your undergrad or a initial years of your PhD, you would be wasting your time learning stats from any book other than this. Very to-the-point explanation of essential concepts, excellent worked out examples, and quick review of the theory of stats – all packed in one neat book for great price. I would not be able to do my PhD studies without Schaum.
⭐The paper looks like it has gotten a little damp then dried, but other than that it’s in good condition I’m impressed.
⭐this outline was exactly as described in the amazon review. It was practically new and exactly what I wanted. Three cheers for Amazon.
⭐This was very useful for my first year statistics course at university with plenty of examples to help with understanding of various formulas and methods. The only reason I rate this four stars instead of 5 is there are a few print errors which can be misleading, though overall this is excellent to guide you through a first year statistics course.
⭐Great book
⭐Excellent price came exactly as described. Very happy with purchase. Would recommend this seller based on this experience. Thank you!!
