Description
With the publication of Parerga and Paralipomena in 1851, there finally came some measure of the fame that Schopenhauer thought was his due. Described by Schopenhauer himself as ‘incomparably more popular than everything up till now’, Parerga is a miscellany of essays addressing themes that complement his work The World as Will and Representation, along with more divergent, speculative pieces. It includes essays on method, logic, the intellect, Kant, pantheism, natural science, religion, education, and language. The present volume offers a new translation, a substantial introduction explaining the context of the essays, and extensive editorial notes on the different published versions of the work. This readable and scholarly edition will be an essential reference for those studying Schopenhauer, the history of philosophy, and nineteenth-century German philosophy.

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:
⭐This is a wonderful translation, but save yourself the money and purchase the electronic copy. As of September, 2021 the pricey (>$100) hardcover is a cheap print-on-demand copy. I would love to have this in a proper binding if I can find one of the earlier printings. For now I’ll be returning this and enjoying this translation on my e-reader.
⭐The years of accumulated wisdom from a pessimistic philosopher spill on every page of this wonderful work of art.
⭐This new translation of Schopenhauer’s Parerga and Paralipomena is scholarly and much anticipated, since the only other translation is outdated.
⭐Varying quality to the wide ranging essays. The hardcover edition is physically well put together.
⭐a most excellent work.
⭐A collection of miscellaneous essays on all manner of interesting subjects written with the ever brilliant writing of a very wise man. Volume one and two are both worth reading. The new translation from Cambridge Press by Janaway, improving on Payne’s well-known translation but only regarding some specific terms is very good.. I like Payne’s translations a lot. But this is well done. The production value is very good. Good, attractive cover, a good size font and style, easy to read, high quailty paper. A must in my book.
⭐Still as good as the others in the series, but as another reviewer says, the materials used here feel quite cheaper, but the price pretty much stayed the same. I don’t quite understand this decision.Otherwise the translation is still the best (in my opinion) you can get in English out here.
⭐Livro excelente. Referência fundamental do pensamento humano.
