Description

This textbook is the result of many years of teaching quantum and statistical mechanics, drawing on exercises and exam papers used on courses taught by the authors. The subjects of the exercises have been carefully selected to cover all the material which is most needed by students. Each exercise is carefully solved in full details, explaining the theory behind the solution with particular care for those issues that students often find difficult, or which are often neglected in other books on the subject. The exercises in this book never require extensive calculations but tend to be somewhat unusual and force the solver to think about the problem starting from first principles, rather than by analogy with some previously solved exercise.

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐Many of the most used problems in Quantum Mechanics were created by Russian physicists in the early 1960’s. Without true quantum computing available perhaps for nearly a decade to come, formulating problems, then explaining answers, is extremely difficult! Dover re-publishes many of the oldies but goodies, but in this field, the oldies are also the current favorites, and just as tough as they were 50 years ago. This book, and most like it, are pretty sketchy and need a LOT of outside help to “get.”

⭐is the new monolith, or bible, of these types of problems, and is nearly 1,000 pages INCLUDING detailed explanations of how the problems are solved. Before 700, many of the little, cheaper books by Dover etc. were unintelligible. Now that 700 is out, many others are within reach along with this one, including:

⭐, and many others.Taking the “cheap” Dovers (search problems in quantum mechanics on Amazon for more), you can add up to about 300 total problems with repetition, so you can see how the 700 text is truly amazing, and covers 1950 to today! By the time you buy 8 Dovers, you’ve spent what you would on the new 700 text, so depending on your need, I’d consider 700 if you really want one place to see them all, including the best solutions anywhere.Library Picks reviews only for the benefit of Amazon shoppers and has nothing to do with Amazon, the authors, manufacturers or publishers of the items we review. We always buy the items we review for the sake of objectivity, and although we search for gems, are not shy about trashing an item if it’s a waste of time or money for Amazon shoppers. If the reviewer identifies herself, her job or her field, it is only as a point of reference to help you gauge the background and any biases.

⭐Contiene molti esercizi svolti, ideali per chi si appresta allo studio della meccanica quantistica e/o statistica.Inoltre, contiene una (striminzita) sintesi teorica delle due materie, di cui non posso discutere poiché non ne ho fatto uso.L’ideale per chiunque voglia superare lo scritto di Meccanica Statistica di Fucito all’Università di Tor Vergata UniRoma 2.mu completo y llego a tiempoI’ve been practising on this book for an exam on Statistical Mechanics and it’s been really usefull, it’s complete and full of explanations
