Description

The Springer Handbook of Spacetime is dedicated to the ground-breaking paradigm shifts embodied in the two relativity theories, and describes in detail the profound reshaping of physical sciences they ushered in. It includes in a single volume chapters on foundations, on the underlying mathematics, on physical and astrophysical implications, experimental evidence and cosmological predictions, as well as chapters on efforts to unify general relativity and quantum physics. The Handbook can be used as a desk reference by researchers in a wide variety of fields, not only by specialists in relativity but also by researchers in related areas that either grew out of, or are deeply influenced by, the two relativity theories: cosmology, astronomy and astrophysics, high energy physics, quantum field theory, mathematics, and philosophy of science. It should also serve as a valuable resource for graduate students and young researchers entering these areas, and for instructors who teach courses on these subjects. The Handbook is divided into six parts. Part A: Introduction to Spacetime Structure. Part B: Foundational Issues. Part C: Spacetime Structure and Mathematics. Part D: Confronting Relativity theories with observations. Part E: General relativity and the universe. Part F: Spacetime beyond Einstein.

User’s Reviews

Editorial Reviews: Review “This is a complete comprehensive textbook of all areas of classical and relativistic Physics including mechanics, E & M, quantum theory, perturbation, solid state, and particle physics. … It is good enough to be read cover to cover and will not disappoint the reader reviewer. I highly recommend this book for physics students, and investigators in physics theories.” (Joseph J. Grenier, Amazon.com, January, 2016)“This is a splendid and very comprehensive review of the special and general theories of relativity and their applications, in a collection of about 40 articles by experts in the field. … the book will appeal to a wide variety of readers, from advanced undergraduates to experts in the field. … I doubt that there is any physicist who would not find something new and interesting here.” (Alan Heavens, The Observatory, Vol. 135 (1245), April, 2015) From the Back Cover The Springer Handbook of Spacetime is dedicated to the ground-breaking paradigm shifts embodied in the two relativity theories, and describes in detail the profound reshaping of physical sciences they ushered in. ⭐Handbook of Space Time DynamicsSpringer Handbook Berlin Heidelberg New YorkJoseph Grenier MD PhDThis is a complete comprehensive textbook of all areas of classical and relativistic Physics including mechanics, E & M, quantum theory, perturbation, solid state, and particle physics. All algebraic and differential calculus notation, and their proofs are described in a historical context. Newton, Einstein, Dirac, Bohr, Planck, and other important figures in history are discussed too. The strong, weak, and other gravitational theories are developed and described. This book is over 800 pages and is a perfect source for qualification exams and board examinations in the Field of Physics. It is good enough to be read cover to cover and will not disappoint the reader reviewer. I highly recommend this book for physics students, and investigators in physics theories. Areas covered include wave dynamics, optics, and acoustics. Applied physics is not described in this book. A working knowledge of college math, algebra, differential equations, tensor theory, and matrices is also required as a prerequisite to understand this reference.

⭐This is as deep as it is wide (I’m referring to content!), & stands tall in my Kindle cosmology collection. While initially skip-reading the whole thing, I decided to augment the Contents by dynamically indexing all section headings using highlights (this has already repaid me).The 39 chapters cover a lot, in a helpful way. You get to see the quality & range of work in this field (!), & you are encouraged to understand, explore further & speculate in your own style.Recommended to anyone with a continuing interest in the physics of cosmology – an unusual gem.
