User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I got interested in this book back in the 70s (Mr Spock and all that). And I had a lot of trouble with Algebra. The concepts in this book are easy enough for a 12 yr old to grasp and it helped me understand Algebra. This copy was bought for a friend with 3 children. Math is Logic, but Logic is not Math. It helps the reader to understand the Socratic Method.

⭐well received !

⭐Classic volume on symbolic logic by Charles Dodgson. Dodgson was an English writer, mathematician, and logician, who wrote his fiction under the the Lewis Carroll. While it is rather odd that the publishers of this volume choose to use Dodgson’s pen name, Lewis Carroll, as the author of this volume, I suppose publishing his nonfiction works under his real name would have doomed this volume to obscurity. Most modern readers know him for his most famous fiction story, Alice in Wonderland, but Dodgson was also a very prolific writer in the field of mathematics, and produced nearly a dozen works under his real name.As a layman interested in logic, I found Dodgson’s book on Symbolic Logic to be very instructive. Recommended.

⭐No stories or explanations and such is pure symbolic logic. Not what I thought but I’ll read it and perhaps it can help me logic and stuff.

⭐If you’re getting the Kindle edition of this book, be aware that there will be problems with the tables and diagrams. Depending on your font size setting, characters and equations may wrap oddly in table cells and labels (so, for example, x’ might wind up as just x, with the ‘ on the next line). In addition, body text is sometimes overlapped by the edges of graphics. A lot of this can be mitigated by using the smallest font available, but for some people this will be unreadable (especially on the Paperwhite). The TOC is also a mess. (And I wish there were a way to review the media separately from the content. The book itself is not the problem here).

⭐Lewis Carroll’s contents timeless and fundamental and should be interesting to anybody with interest in Symbolic Logics or even simple logical problem solving. However, I am kicking myself for not looking at the published year and having been fooled by the snazzy cover into assuming that the presentation would be of contemporary standards. It is ditto reproduction of fonts and pagination from the original, which a contemporary reader would have a tough time keeping up. Just look at the Table of Contents befor you buy.

⭐On the one side, you will learn what was the method Lewis Carroll used to compose his tales, the method behind the contradictions, puzzles and paradoxes in his books; on the other side, it is a very good introductory book on logic, specially for young readers. After a classification of the objects and tools of logic, he teaches how to solve simple but interesting logic problems. All of this while you have fun and enjoy the easy reading and get acquainted with what is considered by the majority a difficult subject. Highly recommended!

⭐I understand that Carroll’s puzzle books were intended for juveniles. My, how far our youth’s intellect has fallen. This is for you if you’re into clever twists and turns in storytelling and love thoughtful challenges.

⭐Nice addition on my knowledge journey. Applying learning as opposed to teaching. RDR

⭐It came quicker than I expected.

⭐It got a very useful knowledge

⭐An excellent ‘mind-exercise’ book. Not exactly politically correct but there again, it was written in the 19th C. – I found the printed exercises rather small and it was sometimes difficult to distinguish between the letters ‘c’ and ‘e’.

⭐Lewis Carroll says it well
