Description

Tensor analysis is an essential tool in any science (e.g. engineering, physics, mathematical biology) that employs a continuum description. This concise text offers a straightforward treatment of the subject suitable for the student or practicing engineer. The final chapter introduces the reader to differential geometry, including the elementary theory of curves and surfaces. A well-organized formula list, provided in an appendix, makes the book a very useful reference. A second appendix contains full hints and solutions for the exercises.

User’s Reviews

Editorial Reviews: Review The book gives a brief, clear, and comprehensive introduction to the theory … A particularly nice feature is a well-organized appendix containing compact listings of all the principal formulas required in applications — these 18 pages alone are worth the price of the book … it should be of interest to both undergraduate and graduate students of physics and engineering, as well as to practicing physicists and engineers. — ZAMM From the Publisher Readership: Undergraduates in engineering or physics, and engineers.

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐Please consider the book

⭐by the authors instead of this book. The content is the same (as far as I can see) and end-of-chapter problems have been added. This book is outdated and more expensive.

⭐This is a well-written and careful introduction to thesort of tensor analysis which pervades continuum mechanics. Students and practicing engineers will find a detailed presentation of all the main ideas, theorems, etc, along with complete proofs. One particularly nice feature is a well-organized appendix containing compact listings of all the principal formulas needed in applications – this alone is worth the price of the book. The authors have also included an introduction to differential geomentry – in particular, the theory of surfaces on which shell theory is based.

⭐A very well written book. Focuses on the subject matter and builds a good level of knowledge starting from the beginning. Recommended to everyone interested in understanding and using tensors.

⭐if you want to learn tensor analysis in clear language, this book is for you ! fantastic introduction to the subject. The exposition is quite clear ! BUY IT!
